Last weekend my daddy was taken to the local hospital by ambulance. They promptly sent him to UNC Chapel Hill because they could do nothing for him. He was diagnosed with an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm. When they got him to UNC he had emergency surgery. It was touch and go for a while with him. He is scheduled to come home tomorrow. So a week of tubes, various IV's and no eating or drinking is coming to an end. He is still weak and tired but he can eat and drink now. I am glad he is coming home. Now if he will quit smoking, he might stay out of the hospital....

Perhaps this will serve as a wake-up call for him, and he will quit. Glad he is able to come home now.

@jaboUK thank you so much. A person would think that this would serve as a wake-up call. Unfortunately, he is still smoking.

@Shellyann36 I suppose it's hard to give up the habit of a life time.

@jaboUK I am afraid that he has been smoking since he was around ten years old, giving up smoking at this point in his life would probably be equivalent to giving up a body part.

Did they have to do anything special for the aneurysm? My mom had on around her neck area and it was only found when they went in to put in a valve because she had a heart murmer and needed other surgeries. There are several places in the body where you can get those. A gal at work's husband had some issues in that same region and now he can never lift more than forty pounds or something like that. That means he can't work anymore at his job. I don't know that he had an aneurysm or not.

@MarshaMusselman they had to do an emergency surgery and repair the aorta. He is already on weight lifting restrictions from his heart attack a few years ago. The doctor's all say for him to quit smoking. The smoking wears out the valves and arteries in the body. That is what happened to his heart and his abdominal aorta.

@velvet53 it is so good to see you again! He is home but his bp is very high. He goes back to his doctor on Thursday. I am more worried about him having a stroke than I am his stomach issues at this point.

@JudyEv Thank you very much. His blood pressure is still very high. I am afraid they sent him home too early. I spoke with him today. He seems ok but even he confessed that his bp is high.

Wow he is one lucky guy, those are hard to diagnose and often the person bleeds out before they figure out the problem. I am sure you will be glad to get him home.

@marlina it was very scary. It also struck him suddenly. He started feeling bad on a Wednesday and tried to make an appointment with his regular doctor. They were booked solid, so they referred him out to a near by clinic. The clinic could not see him either. On Thursday he felt worse but would not go to the hospital. By early Friday evening, he was so bad off that my mama had to call the ambulance for him.
