Wake Up Call

It was another of those sleepy days. I went to bed early last night. Remind me not to do that again, though I do need to be up early tomorrow for church. Anyway by early, I mean I was up at 3 AM. I watched Netflix and played a game and went back to bed at 6 for 3.5 hours. Up at 9:30 and forgot that I needed to be somewhere for 10. Sent an apology FB message to the hostess of the small group function for church. Later I was sitting in my recliner reading, and got tired once again and pushed back and went to sleep, and got a wake up call. A loud crash from outside the door brought me awake in an instant. I looked in the hall, and my neighbor across from me also peeked out. I asked her if she heard it too, knowing she doesn't speak a word of English, but she understood me. And then we heard it. "It was me, I fell." I looked towards the outside door and didn't see anyone for a moment, but there was a bottle on the floor by the front neighbor's apartment and then she showed herself. She had come in and not only fell, but dropped her groceries. She was drunk. She even admitted to having a few drinks. She also had two bottles of something in her arms. Since I don't drink I don't know what it was, but it was hard liquor. I picked her glasses up from the floor and gave them to her and she thanked me and made ready to go up the stairs to her apartment. I've been wide awake ever since and working away here. Have you come awake suddenly and weren't sure where the noise came from or what caused you to come awake in a hurry? Thanks for reading.

I like my sleeping schedule. I hate it when I am off it, or need to take a nap. I'm glad your neighbor was okay, though a bit intoxicated. Was she driving? That's not good if she was. The last time I remember being startled awake (other then when someone is making racket in another room) is when the garbage truck came in. I was feeling sick and so took a nap at night (which is uncommon since I work nights and try to stay on that schedule). I woke up at about 5 AM to the sounds of the garbage truck, but was so startled and wasn't sure what it was. I kid you not, I thought that the world was coming to an end. That is what my half asleep mind conjured up anyway.

I'm sure it did. The mind can conjure up all kinds of things when we're startled awake.

In my house the strange noise would be Patches getting into something.

The last time I heard a bang...that made me jump, I was sewing in the apartment above my store. I flew onto the balcony...where the other tenant was also coming out to see what that noise was...there was a dump truck that had lost its back axle and wheels....the truck was in the middle of the road...the shells and axle where resting against the traffic light standard.....thank goodness there was no one walking there at the time.

That would have been scary for the driver. I'm glad no one was hurt.

Goodness, that would have been a bit of a surprise. I guess she made it up the stairs safely.

I hope so. At least there wasn't any further banging around in the hall.

Yikes! Sorry you had a long day. Sometimes that have happened to me, when I hear a sound from next door, even from my soundproof walls, if it's not from outside.

@just4him I bet. I can hear my neighbor's dog barking at night and early morning, or my neighbor always moving furniture around in her bedroom. *sigh*
