Tax Brackets

There are presently a lot of tax brackets in the United States. One thing the new president wants to reduce the brackets to three. I'm not really happy with them and wanted to discuss what is wrong with the increase to the lowest income group. He wants the lowest income group to have a 12% increase. The bracket would be 0 to 37,000 single and 0 to 75,000 married. How will people already able to get free lunches, food stamps, and qualify for many programs find the increase to pay this new amount? I don't think people in the lowest amount of income should have an increase. He wants to decrease some of the higher levels and they don't need the help. The middle bracket 37,500 single and 112,500 married and the highest bracket would be anyone higher than 112,500 single and 225,000 married. I don't know, if this would pass in congress, but if it does expect some people to have even more of a challenge paying bills. What do you think is fair?

First, let me ask where you got this information and to please go back and read it or listen to it again! He is not raising taxes. He is LOWERING taxes to 12%, 25%, and 33% for the lowest to highest tax brackets! Congress was upset because of the impact to the budget. I don't know why you thought he was raising taxes, but he is not. He is trying to make it easier on the working classes, not just the rich. So I think it is more than fair and yes, it should be much easier for everyone to pay their taxes if it is passed.

Right now, I would like to know where the jobs will come from, as Sears and K-mart are closing a lot of stores. Now I hear there are several more stores in my area that are closing and exactly how will the laid off people pay any taxes.

@Fishmomma The laid off people don't pay taxes unless it is from some type of income which means they are somehow getting money that is taxable. You are flipping the conversation to money and I only responded to your post about the income taxes. As far as jobs, he is a President not God. He is trying to make it more favorable to have a business in the US, but he is not suppose to open businesses for all these people to have a job.

@enlightenedpsych2 I think you turned the conversation. I was just answering the original post about the taxes. He is not God, he is a President. He cannot wave a magic wand and create jobs. He is going to make more favorable conditions for businesses to be in the US, but it is not his responsibility to open the businesses so everyone can work there. Think about your question please. That means that all the facilities were shut down and deserted before he became president. Did you ask this of the last President? I didn't say anything about jobs. I was talking about taxes and the brackets!

I have read that he is lowering taxes, not raising them, I will check again.

Some people will actually have lower taxes, if it passes the way he proposed the taxes. The ones that will have higher taxes are people that itemize deductions and do a really good job now of lowering their taxes. Some deductions he is planning to remove will mean I will pay more taxes.

@LadyDuck Wow that would keep a lot of people from buying a house! I think people would drive less, as you know we have a problem with a freeway that looks like a parking lot every day. What else is considered luxury? Is bathroom tissue, cleaning supplies, pet food and pets? Some states have a sales tax for everything in the United States and others have a sales tax for everything that isn't food like California. Oregon doesn't have a sales tax for anything.

@Fishmomma The worst thing that can happen is a large increase in sales tax, because you pay it every time you buy something. In Italy the sales tax is 20% up to 35% for the so called "luxury items", same in France.
