Beautiful January Day at the Beach

After a week of rain, we are finally getting a break in Southern California.
The local mountains are covered with snow, which is breathtaking to those of us in the valleys, while we enjoy 60 degree weather and gaze up at the snow-covered mountains.
The beach air is clean and fresh.
There is still evidence of the local storms, however. The beach in Laguna is badly eroded, with several of the staircases to the beach closed because the sand at the bottom has been washed away.
Seagulls were sitting on the railing this morning, keeping a close eye on visitors.
A large tree that had fallen across a local street was being sawed up and removed.
A carport near our daughter's home was still partially collapsed after tree limbs had fallen on it.
A friend's condo in our retirement community was flooded by a small mudslide on the hill next to her home.
All in all, however, there was minimal damage.
This weekend, the temperatures are supposed to be in the 70s and the weather will be sunny. I'll be able to go horseback riding, again, and my husband will be back to playing golf.
Looking forward to a gorgeous end to January!

I will have to see if we have time to check out that beach when we go to our granddaughter's graduation from Cal Poly later this year. That would be fun!

I have seen some of the mudslides that have occurred. They are so frightening.

@rebelann - Yes, seagulls can go pretty far inland, but I don't think as far as El Paso. It is likely too hot and dry for them there.

@sol_cee - One of the things I like about living in California is that I can drive up to the ski resorts in less than two hours and I can drive to the beach in ten minutes. We have actually gone and played in the snow and had dinner at the beach on the same day! I have attached a picture of palm trees near my house, with snow covered mountains in the distance.

@DianneN - Yes, there was worse damage in some areas, but not near our house. The storms passed quickly.
