Talk about BIG cheating...

There is a user here that has evidently created 20-30 extra accounts to falsely inflate 'likes' on their discussions.
They have discussions with 6 response and 39 likes...and most of those likes come from accounts that have no activity at all except 'liking' discussions by this user.
Of course, I will not name them here, since that is not allowed...but they have been spotted, and the proper people informed.
Bye-bye now
(Edit: since they are gone, I think I can state the name now, which was 'maltinbrend')

There are several of them around, most of them don't even 'like' anything, they just sign up and are never heard from again

But admin's up early on a Saturday morning... I didn't expect it to be gone so quickly... I think he just logged in too when he was spotted...

We get paid for receiving likes, yes...it 'shows interest' which is one of the things mentioned in the FAQ that we get paid for

@JolietJake "Here's a quarter. Call someone who cares!" Sorry. Had an old country song (that I like) going through my head. Here's a "like." You are now 1/100 of a cent richer (or so) because of my actions.

They were only here for a week or so...I and a few others had even tried to give them a bit of advice, and then they did this instead.

I remember that happening on Gather.com, I don't believe they lasted very long there too. I'm not around enough to notice. I'm glad you are..

Someone else brought it to my attention, but it was something I would have noticed eventually...that big of a difference in the figures is hard to miss

Someone else actually noticed it first and brought it to my attention, I let the 'authorities' know after looking at things a bit myself

The system has no checks to prevent this? We have to given basic info like a valid email and I wonder how these cheaters can get multiple accounts approved without being immediately tripped up.

There are a number of filters designed to prevent serious spammers but the powers-that-be have a policy of not being TOO draconian about people joining but, instead, having some watchful Admins (and some committed members) to limit the damage. Very few cheaters will actually reach first base (i.e. get paid)

I guess I am not since you don't seem to accept them...anyway, no, a valid email is not required to have an account, just to receive payment

I have people that will like all of my discussions and comments and rarely leave a comment or start a discussion.

@ElusiveButterfly You can 'remove' them by blocking them and then unblocking again if you want to

What amazes me is that some people who do this, have the time to create all those false accounts. They must spend all day everyday online!

@Jessicalynnt It is the only way a person can 'otherwise show interest' which is one of the things mentioned in the FAQ that affect how we earn

@pgntwo As JJ said, it was quite obvious... He had the suspiciously big gap between Likes and Responses on all of his 20+ discussions...
Oh @JolietJake , I assume it would be but I thought I'd confirm with you anyway, all the 20-30 extra accounts were also deleted along with the main account, weren't they?
