Another UFO Completed, No Longer A Work in Progress

For some reason this quilt took me longer than usual to complete...not the sewing, but the quilting.
The quilt top debuted here back in July as a finished quilt top....then it was sandwiched and pinned. The center was quilted quickly but then it languished on my work pile. Every few weeks I would pick it up and do a little more, but I never seemed motivated to push through to the finish.
Two weeks ago, I made a determined effort to finish the quilt....sore fingers slowed down the progress and a few distractions of other projects also got in my way.
Friday morning the quilting was finished...the prairie points were made and attached by evening and then all that remained was hand sewing the back edges.
Finished....now on to another UFO.

I love it, the colors are shapes are wonderful. It screams SPRING to me.Good job. My sister is a quilter ( I probably mentioned that many times). She has made quilts for the family and I have several of her table runners and small quilts I use for table covers. She has them all over her house hanging on the wall, her award winning ones anyway.I enjoying seeing them, I have no patience for doing the sewing.

Thank you. This one took much longer to complete than it should have, but I've finished lots of small projects at the same time, so I'm not going to beat myself up over it.

@JudyEv no, I just keep on sewing. Now that my nest is empty I am enjoying retirement.

@Morleyhunt It's never worth beating yourself up over something, especially a UFO when you are doing so many other things in the meantime.

Wow! I absolutely love the quilt. I probably have told you this once or twice, but I am so envious of anyone that can do this craft. They are way too time consuming for me. If I can't work it up fast, it isn't going to be done.

@Morleyhunt your work is amazing! The colors and pattern are so lovely. I think I will still pass on the trying to quilt again. But, who knows, maybe when I retire I will consider it.

@ElusiveButterfly while I was busy running my store I took about five years during which I didn't quilt or make anything that wasn't for the store.

At one time, like you, I only started projects that could be completed quickly. Over time, I've also learned some patience and perseverance. You'll notice that many smaller projects have been completed while this one was just a work in progress.
When I make a quilt, the quilting is the most tedious part. There are no shortcuts to hand quilting and I haven't mastered the art of machine quilting a large project in my domestic sewing machine.

@Morleyhunt Arr you could set up your own business then! I know it is very popular in the USA and some specimens are stunningly beautiful. Just like the one in the picture!

@garymarsh6 as a rule most people want me to make them a quilt...when I tell them the cost they tell me it's too much....their loss.
Many years ago I made the mistake of agreeing to make a quilt for a friend....she told me she would pay me. Not knowing how to charge her I informed her that I had used $75 for materials (I was very frugal) and had worke on it for about 100 hours. The cheque she wrote me for $100. was a slap in the face. She told me that was all she could afford. A week later she spent $1000. On something for her personal pleasure...not a necessity by any stretch of the imagination. Now cost is discussed up front.

Thank you. The talent did not come without a lot of practice and a million mistakes. I didn't start making quilts like this in just a day or two. I've been making quilts for almost 40 years.

I began the quilting process back in July....summers tend to be to hot to have it on my lap for great lengths of time. I enjoy making the prairie points. I think it is my favourite finish for quilts.

Thank you. The nine patch scrap squares and the focal six inch squares were where I chose my colours.

Purple was one of the colours in my focus fabric. That set the tone for everything else. That and what I had available.

It's actually much simpler than it looks.... It's all about breaking it down to manageable proportions.

The first thing that came to my mind while reading the title of your post was - Unidentified Flying Object! I scrolled down right away to see a picture of a flying saucer and lil green aliens . . but I saw a piece of beautiful art instead . . .

I have explained UFOs several times....UnFinsihed Objects. Another abbreviation is PHD......Projects Half Done, or the infamous PIG......Project In Grocerybags.

My patience is hard won. It's not something that just came to me in an instant, but time has a way of teaching us .
