That is a line from a kids' song. It may be a long week. I have been rotated into the afternoons with our most challenging student. That is his most challenging time of day. I was rotated, not so much for my ability, although I do pretty well with him in the morning. I was moved because the person who was with him in the afternoon is clueless. She is very good in a morning spot with another child. The other person who is really good with this child needs to keep her afternoon slot, so they wanted her in the morning. That meant I have the afternoon with him. I bet that all sounds confusing. It probably is confusing for the student as well. And any change in staffing he will challenge. He has a hard time coming back to school after any break. Oh, and he wants to run the whole show. It could be a long week.

This child sounds like my grandson in a lot of ways. Good that you have started working with him early.

He is non verbal autistic and went to two years of preschool here, another year of half day kindergarten half day preschool and this is his second grade year. I have lived your experience with a great niece living with me for a few years. She was oppositional defiant, and possibly bipolar. I often wonder how you have held together so well for so long. You and I have been acquainted online a long time.

@GardenGerty ......Yes, we have. I ve been on here nearly nine years and I think we met on here. My daughter and grandson both had PSRs for much of the time and so I was able to get feedback and help from them. Not so anymore. I used to see a counselor weekly and that was of great help. Both of them are doing a lot better now days also. Not so many manic phases and oppositional defiant out bursts. Thank god for meds. Never thought I would be saying that. I am not real familiar with autism but I sure am with ODD and bi-polar. I recall you telling me about your niece at one point i believe. How is she now?

Change is never good in this sort of a situation but I hope the transition is as smooth as possible.

We used to rotate on a weekly basis, but for one of the other students it is best not to. Honestly, I prefer not to, but they do worry about burn out of staff. There are so many variables in these kids lives.

@GardenGerty I had a bit of a challenger today, it's easier with the under 5 ones, the olders ones can be more of a handful

You know, I love my job and my supervising teacher. We have two explosive students we deal with. The little boy is only minimally verbal. We will do the best we can for him. He acted up yesterday, then was home sick today. Probably acts out when he is coming down with something.

@GardenGerty Yup his acting out could very well be the only way he can tell anyone he is sick.
