New Use for a Motor

PLETHOS (@Plethos) put up a photo today of an old rusting vehicle. You can find it here: http://www.mylot.com/post/3029760/personal-challenge-photography-day-5. I was reminded of a similar vehicle that we saw while looking at wildflowers last September. This is situated at the small settlement of Canna in Western Australia. Someone has gone to the trouble to plant some succulents in the engine area. Note the old fashioned sun-visor too. I wonder what the history is behind this vehicle. It would once have been somebody's pride and joy. At least it still has a use of sorts.

@Plethos I'm not sure why it would get in the way - unless you were trying to watch an eagle.

Would it work as well with non-succulents? Inquiring minds need to know. Sending you some green bean seeds now, and some some snow pea seeds for late Fall.

It should work equally well with green beans and/or snow peas. It will be an interesting experiment. :)

@JudyEv Keep me posted. My beloved jade plant is outside tonight, as it's raining, but not very cold. My balcony snow peas are going fine.

It's probably past fixing now although it is surprising how far gone some things can be but still be resurrected.

The Car displayed gives the attraction of the history. At least viewers can enjoy both flower and car.

It is much better than just having a worn-out old car sitting there.

Wheelbarrows are popular over here too - and also old pushbikes are painted up and the their carry basket filled with flowers. And have you seen wellington boots used as planters? Washing machine drums made great horse-feeders too.

If it's difficult to shift or nowhere to take it, this makes such a difference to the look of it. It's no longer just a heap of scrap.

They must have filled the bonnet with soil. Wonder what the fate will be of that vehicle in course of time.

At least it still has a use and it's very nice too. I would have loved to be able to keep our old car as "flower pot". We cannot keep a car without an insurance and it would have been an expensive flower pot.

@JudyEv Yes, I was attached to the small white Ford Fiesta that we have sold last month of July. I would have loved to keep it. Only my husband drives, one car is enough.

Yes, some things just aren't worth the effort or the expense. It is easy to get attached to some cars isn't it?

Wow. That's really cool. It reminds me of this : -- sometimes I wonder similar things. What was it's original owner like? What events lead up to it's being used as a planter, or in the case of the truck in the video - a fountain
This guy turned an old truck into a fountain in his backyard. Then, after some landscaping, he turned the area around it into a beautiful garden. Check Out O...

Well, that's one way to repurpose a vehicle, I guess! It'd be cool to see other things growing out of other parts of the car - might as well as a car takes up so much space!

They are probably working on it. Perhaps the chooks (chickens) lay their eggs on the seats.

Some farms or backyards have 'car graveyards' too. Often the chooks (chickens) lay their eggs on the seats.

I love it, We always get rid of our old cars and we are paid $300 for old cars that don't run, If the old car is still good we sell it but $300 is pretty good for a junker.

@JudyEv That is strange that they burn them in the bush and get away with it, all cars have identification.

Some would make a fortune if that was brought in here. Some people just seem to collect old cars. They can be a real eyesore. Some dump them in the bush or on the roadside and burn them out.

@PainsOnSlate They might return the number plates then later burn them. Stolen cars are often dumped and burnt.

A restaurant here in our city uses an old van as an attraction at its entrance. A jeepney is likewise displayed at the counter area and the front half of old Volkswagen seats two customers. They also empty drums cut in half fitted with foam as seats at the "al fresco" area.

@JudyEv Yes, they attract plenty of customers, Ms. Judy. In fact, if you plan to have lunch there, you have to be there a bit ealier than 11 so you be able to have a table. Same with dinner - the place is always fully-packed. Probably, the ambience of the restaurant is the main factor for people to patronize it as the sea is just across the road from it. Another thing, Filipinos have a way of playing with words to attract customers like a food joint which calls itself "Mang Donald" to rhyme with McDonald's.
