3 Air Conditioners in 5 Days

Last week we had a perfectly fine air conditioner, which came with our condo when we bought it. It was still perfectly fine when my husband decided to replace it as a precautionary measure. One needs a perfectly fine and running air conditioner all year round in Florida. The perfectly brand new air conditioner was not so perfect. It stopped working. We had two awfully hot nights with minimal breeze off the water to cool us. I really wanted to roll on that ice in my photo. We had another brand new air conditioner installed on our roof today. We only had the added expense of hiring another crane to hoist it onto the roof. It is working perfectly fine now. Thank goodness, because it's very, very hot outside. *Photo is of my ice princess at Lake Placid, New York, where it was very, very cold.

Lovely photo. Well I am glad for you in getting a great AC. As for me when the weather gets hot I am all for getting cooled off by a fan. This is because I discovered early on that I am kind of allergic to the AC air. I cannot describe it but if I spend a day or night in AC temp I have red eyes, running nose and I sneezing fit plus I start shivering.

Oh, my! I never heard of that. I have rhinitis, and my nose runs if it's below 60 degrees Fahrenheit. I'm allergic to the sun. If I don't wear sunglasses, I sneeze and sneeze. If I don't wear sunblock, I get sun poisoning. If we didn't have a/c, the humidity would cause mold to grow on everything, everywhere.

@DianneN we have an old fashioned house here in Riga, Latvia and even if some summers it gets very hot our large windows would never allow for AC but we open all the windows and keep the front door open and the breezes blow through. Then at night we put on a fan to blow across our bedroom. I guess it would be different in an apartment but even in mom's apartment back in NYC in the old days we still used just a fan.

@RasmaSandra We used a fan the last two nights, but it was still hot, even with all windows and doors open, except our front door. I grew up in a hot house. My father didn't believe in a/c. It is probably cooler in Latvia than in South FL during the summer. All I know is that it's pretty darn hot in Connecticut in the summer, too.

Florida must be like India if you need to have airconditioners.

It must! If we don't keep them running when we're home, it can lead to mold. We have to keep the heat running at home, so the pipes don't burst. Can't win.

I'm sure the first aircon unit was under warranty and you did not pay any cent for the latest unit which must have been a replacement to the malfunctioning one, right?

Yes, it's under warranty. We only had to pay for another crane to put it on the roof. We are happy it's working. It's pretty hot down here!!!!

Is the new air conditioner that big that it took a crane to hoist it up the roof, Ms. Dianne?

It is a standard size, but it was the only way to get it on the roof. It's very heavy for two men to lift.

@sunrisefan It is a split type. I just asked my husband. I'm just a dumb blonde.

@DianneN So it must be the compressor of the unit that must have been hoisted. I guess you have the split type unit installed.

I think the next time your husband wants to replace something that is working..go by the old adage. "If it's not broken, don't fix it."

It's called prevention. We certainly wouldn't want to be back in Connecticut with a broken down air conditioner in Florida.

Well, now that I'm freezing with the a/c, I guess it's too late to trade. Where were you when I needed you? I'm all better, thank you!

Dianne for a moment I thought that even the new one was not working. Also my husband wants to change working stuff as a precautionary measure and I am always against. I use to say that "perfect" is not better than "good".

@DianneN Sometimes my husband exaggerates, in Italy we say that this is "to bend your head, before it's broken", it useless.

Your husband is right. One has to be prepared with important things. It turned out to be a freak thing. All is well, thank goodness. We couldn't take a chance with the old a/c here.

I can imagine how hot it is. I also have to use aircon or else I couldn't breathe. I know it is cold for my relatives here at night but not for me. Btw, your princess looks great.

Glad that you finally got a working air conditioner. It would be miserable without an air conditioner there. Great picture. She has such good form.

It certainly would be awful without a/c. It was torture trying to sleep, too, without it. Thank you. It took her three years to get that leg up. Lol!

I can't take the cold or the heat in my old age. Lol! Thank you. She has to wear custom made costumes to match her music now. Just another expense of ice skating.

Oh my gosh I adore this photo! Your granddaughter is such a pretty little doll. That move she is doing I can barely manage to hold in position while standing on the floor but she is doing it on an ice skate on slippery ice. I love that pretty outfit too! As for the air conditioner I hope this one lasts a very long time for all the hassle you have had to deal with!

Thank you! I tried to do that with my led while lying face down on the bed, and my leg cramped up. Lol! That outfit is one you will probably see all season. She has to wear custom made costumes to go with her music when she competes. Yes, lots of hassles with the a/c, but how quickly we forget once it's over.

Perfectly fine: That is how you described the first air conditioner and the last! Hope this one lasts forever. When we do precautionary things, it usually comes back to bite us too! In a few years we can all tell the world we knew about your granddaughter before she became famous.

I doubt that the a/c will last forever, but if it lasts another 14 or 15 years, we will be very happy. So far, so good. Knock on wood! Thank you for your kind words about my ice princess. Time will tell. Lol! She certainly works very hard.

Since hot flashes have come into my life...I eat ice, I munch away at it. So I understand you wishing you could be on that ice in your photo, Dianne, and I am happy you have a working air conditioner again, crazy cost aside! Your ice princess is just beautiful @DianneN . :)

Hi there! Yes, ice is good to munch. No calories. Lol! We need that a/c so badly down here and have people check weekly that it's running while we're not here. Otherwise, mold will grown on everything. Thank you!
