Scam Alert!

While trying to get to AOL today, an audio message alerted me to the fact that there was a Microsoft issue and a virus was on my computer!
The message told me:
Call this number immediately to have it taken care of!
Do not call the # shared here. This is being presented as a warning that you should not call if you see the number on your screen: 888 384-7002
Actually, you should not call any phone # that comes up on your computer. We realized this # was shown when we clicked on what looked like the official AOL link, but was not.
Knowing this was a scam, I proceeded to alert Aol, Microsoft and Mr. Number.
Mr. Number let me know (for the second time in a week) that the number really did not exist. Creepy?
This happens often and so many are scammed as they do call the # and are talked into paying a fee for a service to clean their computer.
Please warn others this is happening!
Are you seeing things like this online?

@PatZAnthony May be, surely not the same telephone number anyway, because our free numbers are different.

My wife had that same thing happen a few months ago. She did not fall for it either. There are so many scams out there.

Just had another one in my email that claimed to be from AOL. Another day, another scam.

That would certainly spook me. No never have seen anything like this. However what makes me feel strange is that when I am off my PC for some hours I put it to sleep to save energy. There have been times that when the PC should be quiet it has turned on by itself. Now that really spooks me and I don't know why but everything has been alright and my PC works just fine.

Apparently, there is always something new @RasmaSandra
My first thought was that there was a virus and I should contact Mircrosoft, not call the 888 # that came up.
Wonder how many were fooled.
We have had phones (Smart?) turn on without us hitting a button. Unplug your computer when not in use?

@PatZAnthony I might try unplugging it. My hubby has had his one mobile phone call his other. How's that for strange? Hope your problem gets resolved.

It is so terrible that we take the precautions we do and still have attempted scams.

I see this once in awhile but never, never call. It's the same if someone calls you and asks for information. Only deal with people you choose to call. Good reminder here!
