The Music of Wicked

I'll be going tomorrow night to see Wicked. I realized I don't know the songs. I would enjoy it so much more if the songs were familiar to me, so I'm playing the soundtrack while mylotting this morning. So far every song is new to me.
The songs sound very much like a score from a Disney animated movie. I'm picturing Anna and Elsa singing since I have no frame of reference for this musical!
Are they well known to you? Do you have a favorite?

Right now they all sound similar. I'm hoping some will stand out. I meant to do this two weeks ago when I bought the ticket.

@Jeanniemaries No, most of the arias that I adore are from operas. I can listen to Gilbert and Sullivan, which is rather mediocre but at least reasonable.

I always say I don't like them but some of my favorite movies are musicals...Chicago, Mama Mia...and just last Sunday I saw La La Land. But I didn't know it was a musical. I think it's the old style musicals I really don't like. What is your favorite song? Is it from a musical?

That's exactly it. I rarely like a song the first time I hear it. I actually remember when I was 15 or so I got the album Pet Sounds from the Beach Boys and didn't care for it at all. This actually became my favorite album of all time.

Oooh I am so jealous! I love the Wicked soundtrack but have not been able to see it live. I don't think the score sounds at all like Frozen haha mostly because Wicked was created before Frozen haha!
It would be really hard for me to pick a favorite. I love it so much.

I'm really not a good judge! I think all the Disney songs sound alike, so musically I'm pretty challenged. I'm enjoying the soundtrack and plan to play it several times to try and get familiar with the songs. As popular as the musical is, I am surprised that none of the songs are familiar to me though. I expected to hear one and think OH! This is from Wicked??? Haha!

@Jeanniemaries Haha it is okay, I am a musical junkie so I can differ the songs, though some Disney songs do sound alike I will agree!

I haven't read the book either, so the entire story will be new to me. I didn't want to read it ahead of time, but may later.
