When I learned to drive it was with an automatic transmission, I figured that there is too many other things like kids in your car, dogs running out in front of the car and people cutting you off., to pay attention to the sound of the engine to know when to shift and dealing with the stick and clutch. During my mid twenties a friend (so called) said he would teach me how to drive his manual transmission car. We were in the city on the highway, but because it was in the city the speed limit was slow. He put the car in park and switched places with me. He told me just use the clutch, put it in first gear when you need to slow down and whatever you do don't EVER hit the brake. I started moving, the traffic light turned red and there were three cars ahead of me that had stopped. I said,"Now what? I am still moving ." He yelled at me, "Well put your foot on the brake STUPID!" I put my foot on the brake and stopped the car and yelled at him to put the car in park and I got out! Good for me That has been about 30 years and I still feel that is too manny things to pay attention to

I learned to drive a standard transmission much later in life. When my ex got a truck. Rather than that I drove a automatic. I could tell you some funny stories about me learning to drive a standard. Oh dear.

I drive manual and never tried automatic. I guess in general we really have to pay attention to everything when driving.

I learnt driving using manual car. Then I didn't drive for almost a year after passing my license. After that, I kinda forget how to drive So now I settle with automatic car.

I know he really made me mad. I have neither drove or attempted drive manually or spoke to him in thirty years! I heard that this person became a real loser too.
