"Scottish bath" treatment for the legs!

Today I was reading an article for tired legs and the author was suggesting "scottish baths" for the feet every day! The "Scottish bath" or shower, refers to alternating cold and hot water while taking a shower. It is a good treatment for improving blood circulation and increasing energy. Personally, I don't have the courage to take a cold shower but a treatment for the tired legs sounded good. This treatment was for 5 minutes of alternating cold and hot water (1 minute each) and I had to start and finish the cycle with cold water. It was a refreshing treatment and really helped with my swollen feet. Have you ever tried the Scottish shower?

Sounds reasonable. I could do it now as we are in summer.

Summertime is ideal for this treatment! It is still winter here so I was a little cold at the first two cycles.

Sounds like a great idea. I don't get swollen legs, but it is something that sounds refreshing.

@besweet I'm going to have to soak my face in that, too!

Not so sure I would be prone to wanting to do a Scottish shower, but should try what you did with your feet as my legs and feet a lot of times are swollen too and I would think this would help them.

It did help me with the swelling, but I think it needs to be repeated daily. Let me know if you see good results!

I have never tried that but do not think I could bring myself to do that.

Contrast hydrotherapy does not make miracles, but it's better than nothing at all for tired legs.

@LadyDuck That's a good practice, it was on the list of suggestion for tired legs in the article. They also had massaging and reflexology in that list.

It made my legs feel lighter, I combined it with keeping inclined position after the shower and it felt much better. I don't know how it works in long term, but I will keep doing it every night!

@besweet I always keep my feet elevated while I watch the TV, it also relieves tired leg muscles.

I loathe cold showers and would go to quite some lengths to avoid one. I'm sure the alternating hot and cold water would be good for the circulation.

It stimulates the blood circulation, but it sounds like a torture to me as well! I can only do it on the legs and sometimes I finish my hair shampooing with cold water. I was reading an article referring to the Scottish shower as the "James Bond shower"! It was so funny!

@JudyEv haha! It is supposed to make us more resistant to cold! But I would feel the same with you, I don't know how some people can have cold showers during winter!

@besweet The water in Scotland would be very cold I think! I think I would die quite easily!
