Bananas

I can't believe it no bananas in the store. Huge space in store and not even one is there. If you don't have bananas for a recipe what do you use instead? I promised a friend that there would be a banana split (home made) for her birthday. Now its not happening. I can give her an I Owe You with a picture, but that is disappointing and her birthday is Monday. What to put on with the ice cream, as I haven't figured anything that would be a creative unusual pick.

Did you happen to speak to someone in the produce department? They might be able to tell you if their next shipment will be in soon, or at least give you an explanation for the fact that they had no bananas. I've only seen that once in the store we shop at, and they had the shelf fully stocked when I went in again the next day. Maybe you'll luck out like that and they'll have a few in tomorrow. If not, is there a different store that you might find one at? Even gas station convenience stores seem to have a few pieces of basic fresh fruit like apples, bananas, and oranges, although they're usually pretty pricey at those places. If you still have to come up with a substitution, what about a few of those banana-shaped candies? I think they're called Runts or something like that. I usually see them in the dispensers by the grocery store entrances here.

I'm hoping, as the person in produce didn't know when bananas would be available. Its happened to me several times and tried 4 stores today. I will try the gas station, as an expensive banana is better than none. Thanks for posting, as I didn't think anything else would work.

@owlandbutterfly I will look, as use to see them in the store. Now I don't shop in that area of the store often, as use a lot of fresh in my dishes.

@Fishmomma Another thought I just had--would frozen bananas work? Dole had something called Dippers out a few years ago that were basically just frozen fruit slices with chocolate on them. A few of those would go well with ice cream if they happen to still have them out. I haven't looked for them recently so I'm not sure if they're available. They were in the frozen section with the desserts, I think.

Was there a different nearby store you could visit? Disappointing to hear a grocery store not have bananas!

This has happened before, as all the rain and many items aren't available. I am going to try the grocery store in the morning to see, if they restock and maybe just run out so fast. If this doesn't work, then the gas station and fast food places, as going to find 1 banana some how to make my friend happy.

Can you order a banana split from a restaurant (fast food place) take the banana from it, and incorporate into the homemade banana split? It's a lot of trouble, but if it's really important then it might work. How weird that they are out of bananas.

This isn't the first time there are zero bananas. I think its because of the bad weather, as quite a few items aren't available. Trucks have to deliver them, as don't grow here. Thanks for the suggestion, as I don't visit fast food places, so it didn't think of this way.

Thats very disappointing indeed. Maybe you can make something with avocados. I love eating avocados. And they can serve as a good dessert too

I ended up getting help from a neighbor. My new job has kept me busy and haven't been to the store this week. Thanks for the suggestion.

Make a peach Melba instead of a banana split, or a strawberry Melba.

I am checking the store in the morning, as many of the stores have part time workers, so they just may not be in the know. I rarely go to the store in the morning, so that might be when the full time people work. If there isn't any will try a couple places , then she might be getting an I Owe You, as there have been signs up several times when bananas aren't available. Just may end up making a treat from some other fruit for now.

I love them also. Its hard to look at the empty shelf and 4 other stores couldn't help me. I'm hoping it was just to many people bought all of them and they didn't restock.

How can it be banana split without banana? Using banana flavor won't help much.

I agree and posted to see, if anyone might have suggestions. I'm going to try the gas station, as several have little stores next to them. Thanks for posting.
