Points, Contests and More Points

Just to keep my friends here posted- that darn flu is lingering. It has a made a permanent home in my body or more to the point- my throat and it really likes it there. My ears have not cleared but I'd say I'm slightly better. Taking lots of C's. Now to the point. Do you have points cards for this and that? I do. I have Air Miies, Travel Miles, Pharmacy Points, Grocery Points, Department Store points and oh, yeah Gas points. I love to use them because like all you buddies- I love to get a bargain or at least a few discounts here and there or even freeebies. The problem is never- getting the points, it's- using the points. I like to wait till it builds, especially at the grocery stores and the drug store and then go in for the kill. Only thing it sometimes is not so easy. The Air Miles Program had people complaining that it was hard to get help on the phone or online with applying points for travel, etc. And it does get frustrating. The easiest ones to use are the grocery ones because you build and get say, $20 off your grocery bill and that feels good. How about you guys- any thoughts on all these points cards, etc. or do you even use them? Do you get points for shopping, etc? And do you get my point?

I do use quite a few different points card and I will when you get to save on your groceries, gas or at the pharmacy. It is always a good feeling to save money. Just last week I cashed in $30 on my groceries which was great! Hope you are feeling better soon!

Doesn't it feel good? Feels like you're getting away with something and perhaps you are cause without the points card you would have spent that same amount of money anyway

Some people might fimd it pointless - but I don't. Of course, I don't make it a point to apply such programs either.

I was having fun with words in my post but I do love the points cards and love thinking I'm getting stuff for free!

@MarymargII I get 1% cashback on grocery and gas on a credit card I have. That does come in handy, but it's the only thing I have like that.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Here in Canada a lot of the stores are offering points each time you buy but if I don't go there often it's hardly worth it- Fun, though.

I have those points in my credit cards sort of reward points. But I never get to use them because the corresponding prizes for the points have very high points. I don't have very high points because I only use my credit cards on important and expensive things which is seldom.

@SIMPLYD Maybe stores around you will start offering cards where you can collect points each time you shop there- then in the end you wind up with something free anyway!

Well it's much better to keep it the way you do- better to have low credit than high points- ha!

Oh, I hope you will feel 100% soon! Yes, I have those point cards as well. And my favorite is also the grocery one. I shop on Tuesdays because that's when they double the point so I get to the $15 redemption a lot faster.

That sounds like a good idea to give you a little incentive. I am trying to work up from $10.00 right now and want to save as many as $30 before I redeem. That would feel so great on a say, 36 or 40 dollar purchase!

@MarymargII Yes, I figure I have to do grocery anyway so getting double points is a nice bonus. Besides, the shop is the closest one to my house and their prices are not too bad compared to other grocery stores. I get things they have on specials and things I can't find in Aldi which has lower prices on their stuff.

I must shop at the wrong places because I never get points for shopping except at Walgreens.

I have point cards for the two grocery stores where I make my weekly shopping. Every two months I receive voucher that I can spend like real money in their stores.

@MarymargII The only thing I have to do is to scan my card when I pay, if there are items for sale ONLY for those who own the card, I automatically get a discount and cash at the end of the month.

@LadyDuck At my grocery store I just get money off the grocery bill once you get to $10 dollars but you can save up to whatever- I usually wait till it gets to at least $20 off. This time I'm waiting until $30 off though!

@LadyDuck Right, but that's what I meant and perhaps I should have said marketing which is a better word for it. But it is fun to collect them for sure!

I do get your point although I thought this would be about other points too like swagbucks or something, not that I'm concerned either way.We have a perk program where I work where each grocery shop adds up to points that you can use for a future order. It used to be that you had to tell the system when you wanted to begin the reward and then when you got the minimum amount spent you told it when you wanted to spend those points. Now it's been changed, I think due to complaints from people that lose the point because they forget to claim them. Now they come and go automatically. The only problem is that there are also coupons for other things and I used to do the coupons monthly when I started the new perks for the month, now that It's automatic I still need to remember to look at the coupons at least periodically. We also have the same perks for prescriptions and I make out fairly well there. For five rx's we get one credit and for ten rx's that equals two credits. For one credit you can have the choice of either 50 cents off a gallon of gas up to 30 gallons, or 5% off the grocery order, or 10.00 off the whole basket. If you wait until you get two credits you double the take. Yes, 1.00 off each gal of gas, 10% off groceries or 20.00 off the basket. I did the gas one once, but my tank isn't that big and I only saved 6.00. Since then I use the ten or twenty dollars off. I don't get our gas very often, mostly because it's on the other side of town and I never remember to get any after work. So I use speedway and they have points to use for gas cards. My husband had enough a few years ago to get one, but not me. I've had more than one card and I'm sure that even if I went on the site they still wouldn't have my previous card on file as it's probably been eight years already. I hope by not you are much better. Are you taking anything for the leftover symptoms? Sometimes just saline in the nose would probably make a world of difference.

We use credit cards for airmile points and have never had a problem using them. Actually, when booking a flight to London, then a flight to Scotland, and the return trip from Paris, the agent did everything she could and managed to use our miles without a hitch for us. We haven been given first class upgrades, too. My only department store card I use is for Saks Fifth Avenue. Always a pleasure and never a problem. Since I don't fill my cars, my hubby does and gets points for that from our supermarket. We use dollars off for pharmacy purchases. I get your point, but have no frustrating complaints, just lots of extra money to spend. Lol!

I get your point but I don't think we'd have as many point systems here as you seem to have.

Oh my goodness- every store is doing it - it seems and at some that I hardly go to it hardly seems worth it- but it's fun feeling like you're getting free stuff for sure.
