Are you a Country Mouse or a City Mouse?

I don't mean to really call anyone here a mouse, but if you're familiar with the classic children's story, you'll probably get what I mean. :o) My family and I are scheduled to drive to the nearest country side highlands tomorrow to breathe some fresh air, to have a picnic, and to have the kids go horseback riding. I'm also excited to visit the market and get some fresh produce. I'm a city-bred mouse who dreams of becoming a full-fledged country mouse. I love being close to nature, and it's my dream to someday tend a small farm that can sustain my family and small community. Which do you prefer to live in - the city or the country?

We were both brought up in the country but ended up having to spend quite some time in the city. Eventually we were able to move back out to the country and we'll be staying here now.

@almostoveryou We have only half an hour from a big city so that's good. It's not too far to go for most medical services, etc.

@JudyEv Good for you. Access to medical services is also my primary concern. While it's great to live in the deepest rural area one can find, there may not be enough comfort in knowing that doctors and nurses are far.

I like living in a rural place that's not far away from the city. I like the best of both worlds, but would still choose to spend most days in the country.

A country mouse definitely...only thing is developments are taking over the country side making it more city like.

True. We see the same thing happening here, and it's really sad to see all those precious farmlands being converted into housing and commercial facilities.

I've spend most of my life in the rural areas. I would love to experience life in the city for a change

@almostoveryou But I love here in the province too. I just wish we have a second home in the city

@averygirl72 Yes, some people acquire property in the city for convenience.

I understand. One of my sisters grew up in a rurban area and when she moved to the city, she was so happy and excited to have access to many shops and restaurants.

Thanks. I did! Can't wait for our next long drive to a nature reserve.

I was brought up in a very rural place. No shops/pubs/restaurants within ten miles. Now I live in a city centre. I like the convenience of a city but miss the countryside living in a way.

If only most cities would have nature reserves or a central park, I would move back. What I really like about rural places is the gentle sound of nature and the near absence of engines whirring.

I prefer the city because there is lots to do and I just like having access to everything I need.

I get your point. When I moved to a province, I felt frustrated about not having enough access to this and that.
