Pretty sure I’m repeating myself with this information, but hey, I’m happy even if only one person learns something new from it…
Being in the Southern Hemisphere, the dates of the four seasons in Australia are the opposite of those in the Northern Hemisphere. We have:
• Summer from December to February,
• Autumn from March to May,
• Winter from June to August, and
• Spring from September to November.
So with March is here now, Summer has officially left and we are starting our Fall season. Yes, what I also like about it is that the season starts on the first of the transition months. It’s very simple to keep track of. No chance to get confused like when the start of a season is determined astrologically...
Happy March!

And spring is on the way for us, the 21st of March I believe. Can't wait sick of the cold weather here, but at least today we have sun.

@sishy7 I have to wait I have no choice but the cold can still stick around for quite some time even though it's spring.

That is logical, but still kind of boggles my mind. If a person were rich, they could enjoy their favorite season twice a year.

This was fascinating. Although I was aware that the weather is hot at Christmas in Australia I had never given any thought to the seasons there during the rest of the year. I used to work for a couple who went on holiday there during May one year and I never realised they were taking what would be an autumn vacation. I assume they did!

May is a good time for holidays down here, I suppose... The weather is nice and not yet too cold... It's close enough to Summer break in other places for people to take time off... And I notice many good performances at the opera house are scheduled during the month...

@asfarasiknow December and January are usually the peak season when airfare to Australia would be most expensive...

@sishy7 They're not really opera-type people but I can see how many would be attracted by the programme at that iconic building.
So are December to February holidays there the most expensive?

@sishy7 Do you guys get into it? I do dress the table with shamrock stuff and we get in our corned beef and cabbage.
As you know, here autumn decorations coincide with Thanksgiving (just like spring decor coincide with Easter) . . . how does it work there with autumn holidays - in spring
?

@much2say No, we don't really get into St. Patrick's Day celebration at home...
Yeah, we still have Easter and school holidays in April too... But it's not called 'Spring break', we just call it Easter holidays, I guess... The decorations... oh, you just made me think about them now - I guess I've never really thought about them relating to the seasons... We have easter eggs and stuff for Easter, and we don't celebrate Thanksgiving down here...

But it rains there when one least expects it. I was in Australia a few years ago in the month of April and I got a drench when I least expected it.

I lived in British Columbia for a while, and out there we would get these really brief but crazy downpours. They would be anywhere from three minutes, to 20 minutes, in the middle of an otherwise beautiful, hot, sunny summer day. It was so weird!

@infatuatedbby Yes, we have hard waste pick up twice a year and green waste pick up twice a year all in different times...
I guess it is called Easter break or just School break...

It does seem very odd for those of us in the Northern hemisphere to have Christmas in Summer weather, just too off

@sishy7 That would be so weird! I've had Christmas without snow, but in Canada a hot Christmas just wouldn't be Christmas.
