Dollars Make Sense: Make your own foaming soap

Here's an interesting money saving tip that I had to experience first because my mom tried it before I started doing it, too. If you use liquid soap and like the feel of the foaming soap - you can cut your soap bill in half or less. What you need to do: Purchase a foaming soap in a dispenser.  Make sure that the pump top can come off. Use up to foaming soap.  Refill 50% liquid soap of your choosing (I have seen dish soap and body wash even work in there) - and 50% water. I'm not even kidding.  In fact it will not work quite right if the soap is too much.  The refill using the 50% cheap liquid soap and 50% water - foam gets just about like the original soap foam. Ah someone else already had the idea. Here's a video on making your own foam soap. **Please note: I have never tried adding the oils as she does, so I can't say how that works** :
Today we show you how to make foaming hand soap. Learn how to refill your bottles when they run out. This tip can save you approx $5 per bottle you refill! T...

This is an awesome idea. I use liquid soap sometimes but it uses a lot per squirt. Mixing half of it with water and turning it foamy would save money. Thanks for this great tip.

@FayeHazel I will buy one of those foam bottles when I run out of soap. Until then I have a screenshot of this post saved on my tablet.

That is a great tip! I think someone ever mentions about diluting the shampoo, though not to the extent of 50% water.

I have never paid $5 for my handsoap, I try to find it at Marshalls or TJMaxx reduced.

Interesting. I fill water in shampoo and body wash when the bottle is empty. You can use what you have in the bottle a few more times.

There is something to be said for the full strength new bottles,(like the Strawberries and Champagne from Bath and Body Works, yum!) though you can use scented liquid soap for this too, I think the woman in the video liked the unscented because she adds the oils...

This is a good idea. I add a little water to my 'empty' shampoo bottles, give them a shake and get at least two more hair-washes from them.

That's a good idea too - shampoo sticks in the bottom of the bottle anyway, can be a lot left in there.
