The light at the end of the tunnel really was a train

I keep thinking I'm getting better, that the cough is getting less and less, but yesterday I coughed so much I hardly had time to do much else. Yes, just when I thought things were getting better that light on the train hit me full speed ahead. I have not had much of an appetite, which is probably a good thing in the long run. By the evening I think even my 'cougher' was tired and it took a vacation! I was able to sleep which is always a good thing. I told my husband I'm not doing much walking around - when I walk or talk I cough. If I wasn't getting decent amounts of sleep I don't know if I could deal with this or not. Hope the rest of you are healthy! Photo from Pixabay

That seems to be the pattern this nasty bug follows. You think you are through...you see that tantalizing light at the end of the sniffle sneeze cough tunnel and then you go through another round. I hope that this is the end of it for you.

@AbbyGreenhill it's probably best to listen to your body. Give it another day or so...you'll enjoy going out to dinner much more when you are feeling better.

I had a cold with really bad cough this winter, it lasted for weeks and it was exhausting. Eating honey helped my throat feel softer and keeping my body warm in the house.

i would rather have a runny nose than a relentless cough because it's exhausting.

My nose runs but it doesn't annoy me as much as the coughing.

That is a bad cough. Does your chest hurt after coughing so much? I remember when I had pneumonia in 2001 , my chest hurt a lot as I coughed.

No nothing hurts, not even my sides any more - but I do get light headed when I cough too long.

A friend of mine coughed so hard, she broke some capillaries in her esophagus. Then she went from the flu to pneumonia and is in an induced coma. Not trying to scare you, but don't let yourself get too bad off befoe a trip to urgent care. What has your doctor said?

@1creekgirl In years past the cough was about a month. This time I didn't have to have breathing treatments which was good.

I not that bad, believe me - was the doc' was on antibiotics - I have no fever, not coughing up colored yuck, just coughing. I checked the signs of pneumonia early on and I don't have them. I get this once a winter for the last 10 or so years.

I hope you get better fast. Have you been to the doctor for your cough? I got annoyed with mine a couple years ago and found out it was double pneumonia. I spent a week in the hospital. I hope your cough is just a cold that will go away soon.

well, this isn't the flu - it's a respiratory infection that I get once a year. I have not had the flu since I was a kid.

Don't you think your cough was due to the bad weather? The people around me keep coughing as the weather has changed from hot to wet season.

Maybe you need to see a doctor. It can be an allergy or you need to eat a lot of fruits and veggies. And don't exposed your back to too much cold or too much heat it can be one cost. God bless you complete recovery in Jesus name, this I pray Amen!
