30 inches of snow fell in Tennessee....

United States

in 1993 that is. Yes, they had called for a few inches of snow back on that day and it turned into a blizzard that left part of Tennessee at a standstill. So when the news came through that we might get a few flurries this weekend, on the anniversary of that big blizzard, some people got worried. I laughed it off, so far in our 17 years here the most snow we ever got in one shot was six inches and it melted shortly thereafter. We did have snow today, as evidenced in my photo - I didn't count the actual flakes but as you can see we have no accumulation and didn't even need to get out the broom! This is what a Southern Snow Storm looks like to me! Photo is mine - looking back at the covered pool and pond beyond.

This looks like the snow storms we had in southern France, the snow did not even touch the ground.

Are you in East, Central or West Tennessee? I know I was surprised that East Tennessee is prone to tornadoes. Going down the highway from Knoxville towards the airport, there are signs about tornadoes on the highway. It's weird to see. I have thought of moving there a time or two - i have a good friend there and a former classmate who lives in Morrisville north of Knoxville on the old road to Bristol. I would at least know someone before I got there. But, tornadoes unnerve me terribly.

@AbbyGreenhill That's where, yes. I keep thinking since WE have a Morristown up here, it's not the same, so I keep adding 'ville to it. LOL Yes, he moved from just outside Philly after his divorce to there. He's remarried and loves it there. My friend grew up in Friendsville, but now lives in west Knoxville. I need to get back down there to visit her. But, those signs blew my mind. It never occurred to me. We get warnings a lot up here, but mostly in Burlington County which is the closest we have to an "alley" for storms. They do form, but they're the smaller ones when they do.

We moved from North Brunswick NJ to East Tn 17 years ago and I never heard a tornado warning until then. They call this area where I live Tornado Alley South. I think you mean Morristown, TN which is northeast of Knoxville about an hour. We bought several cars at Morristown Chevy. That area from K'ville north east doesn't get as many tornado warnings as we do. I'm half way between K'ville and Chattanooga.

Well, I'm hoping you don't get 30 inches. That sounds a tad too much.

I remember the Blizzard of 1993. But, do you know it was odd, here in Toccoa GA, we didn't get as much snow as Atlanta GA did then! It was weird.

We have had some terrible storms, but don't think the one we are supposed to have this weekend will ever be near that one 17 years ago.

We've been really lucky this winter and seen very little snow - and most of that didn't stick around.
