The power of organisation

For most of the winter I seem to have been repeatedly wearing, washing and wearing again the same half-dozen or so pairs of knickers – and half of those I inherited from my mother! I thought I would have to go out and buy myself some new underwear, but first I decided to organise my jumbled underwear drawer. I thought about buying some fancy drawer organisers, but not having money to burn on unnecessary stuff I decided to look into making some instead. I set to work with a collection of shoe boxes and other smallish boxes cut down to size, some glue and a bag of used wrapping paper (we always save and re-use all our paper) and soon had a set of pretty boxes to arrange in the drawer. Then I pulled everything out and sorted it into the different types of items, folded them neatly and fitted them into the different sections. Lo and behold, I could find everything – and I rediscovered all the pairs of knickers that had been pushed to the back of the drawer and forgotten about, some I’d never even worn. And do you know what? I actually have 43 pairs!! No need to buy any more after all. Result! All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2017.

What have you done? Now I've seen the contents of your knicker drawer, in order to avoid a massive scandal, I'm going to have to marry you!!

Does that mean you have to avert your eyes every time you pass a loaded washing line?

I fear to have a good look in the chest of drawers, who knows what lurks within!

I use tissues boxes as separators in my drawers for the small things like socks, handkerchiefs, belts and others small items. They are very useful to organize the space and let us find everything.

Are fancy drawer organisers only useful for a pile of fancy drawers...

@Fleura As a general rule, I avoid vigorously rummaging in strange drawers, you never know what might emerge!

@Fleura I try. It's easy when I put the laundry away. Sometimes I'm very bad, because I just kick off my shoes in the closet. Shame on me!

I love finding knickers that I forgot I even owned! I must go through my knicker drawer and see what goodies I can unearth.

Wow - 43 pairs! I'm not organised at all, and tend to use the same half a dozen or so pairs, just like you used to.

That was a lot of knickers to be hiding. It's amazing what a tidy-up can unearth.

Cleaning up helps and then you can see what you really have.
