This old bird is still learning 0.o

Miss Boobear was rolling around on Mykey's chair a few years ago and I happened to have my camera ready so got a few shots.

Ok, I won't go into great detail but I do want touch on the subject of getting cash rewards back via credit cards. I have several that I have been using and over the past couple months I realized that although the idea of getting rewarded is really kool I still have to spend to get that reward. Ok, that said, I have discontinued using the Sams and Costco related credit cards. I got my reward checks and redeemed the one for Costco and today I ventured to Sams to redeem the check from their credit card. Was I shocked. Because I had not renewed my membership they told me they could NOT cash my check. Well, not being a dummy, I called my creditor to inquire about that problem. I didn't renew my membership and because I was polite about it and fortunately had at least one other member listening who also had their card they finally agreed to reactivate my membership for 24 hours so I could cash my check. Why do members have to go through all that just to redeem a reward check? Do you also have a Sams Synchrony Bank card? I am debating on whether or not to pay for membership in the future, I'm not sure if I will. Oh, in order to keep my credit history looking good I am going to report the card lost, then when I get the new card I will simply forget to activate it. What would you do? That beautiful kitty is Boobear, she was rolling around on Mykey's chair.

It is nice that you got a good response. Absolutely would have been trying to do what you did to get them to take the check. YOU earned it, so why the issue? Strange, don't you think.

I had to threaten people to get a good response, that really shouldn't have happened. I'm definitely going to complain about the staff at the membership desk plus I'm going to make sure Synchrony bank gets an earful about this, they should have made that check easy to redeem at MY credit union.

Seems a bit unreasonable that they won't cash your check without a renewed membership

I thought the same thing. I'm going to let both the main office of Sams and the credit card know exactly how I feel about all this BS.

I would be very unlikely to renew such a membership since the whole concept appears to be based on blackmail.

@rebelann The obvious concern is that if you renewed the membership then you would need to renew again next year or forfeit any rewards earned during the coming year. This would imply the need to subscribe for life, or eventually forfeit some accrued credits.

The good news is that I can in future apply for membership at Sams without reapplying for their credit card @Asylum either way though I don't think it's worth my while to bother with either.

I'm inclined to agree with you. After today's fiasco I probably won't get membership there again. Also I do plan to give both Sams and their credit card my opinion of services rendered and the time it took to get my reward cashed.

the rewards cards I have give cash back- usually credit to your account or you can withdraw to your bank. I don't have Sams or Costco- I have 3 other Synchrony cards but none of them luckily have checks back that you can not cash.. I do love the rewards. I have had 3 cards in the last year that have given me money back just for getting the card I have made $650. after that unless they offer cash back, I barely use them.

I have one that I really like to use because it not only gives me cash back but it also gives a percentage of my expenditures to the charity I chose. I haven't tracked what I've earned but I'm happy with that card. I'm trying to figure out how to cancel at least 2 cards without impacting my credit rating, so far no go.

'Wisemen think alike, fools never disagree" Reading this post I thought what a coincidence that I too was contemplating writing to Amazon about gift coupons that I should have applied for a long time ago but have still not started. It could be too late may be. Any role that cat I see in the picture is going to play to fulfil your mission? (lol)

We refuse to get another credit card, and just use our Costco membership card. Glad it worked out well for you.

I've never had a problem with any of the other cards but I also never intended to have more than 2 so now I am going to report a couple of them as lost then when I get the new ones I won't activate them.

You're right about that @DianneN that's the other lesson I'm I've learned only now I find that if I cancel a card my ratings will drop hence my idea to claim I lost the card then not activate the new one when it comes.

@rebelann We do have others that we use. It's best not to have too many for credit ratings.

I have a TJMaxx reward card with Synchrony bank. I get certificates and I can turn them in at any Marshall, TJMaxx and Home Goods and I pay no membership fee.

That's definitely better than the Sams fiasco, but I don't shop in those stores, mostly I bought foods, baking soda and vinegar at Sams, but now I'll just get that at Costco.
