How Many Keys Do You Carry

In my youth I always thought it as odd to see people walking round with a massive bunch of keys, like jailers about to lock lots of cells and prison exits. I wondered why anyone needed so many. Nowadays I have a massive bunch of keys, most of which I no longer use but never part with. I need my front door key and one for the entrance to the apartment block. I have a few other keys that I know the purpose of but never use. I have a large four draw filing cabinet but I never lock it, as there is only me in the house and if someone got in to break into it, they wouldn’t find much worth stealing anyway. I have a cashbox, but no cash to put in it, so I only use it if helping at stalls, etc. I have a padlock, which occasionally gets used if I stay at hostels but rarely. Other keys I have are now useless. I still have keys to my mum’s house, my old shed (now demolished) and a few old music boxes, etc., and lots of keys of no further use or memory to me. I also have lots of key rings. My reasoning is that a big heavy clump of keys is harder to lose. If I drop one key I might not hear it go, and therefore never recover it. If I drop my whole bunch it will make a noise and I’ll find them easily plus it ill be harder to steal my keys quietly. Car drivers used to have lots of keys but now the electronic key has largely taken over that role. I never drive so I don’t have car-keys as an excuse. It amuses me that I’m no asked ho many keys I have and if I really need so many, as if everyone round me is possessed by my my pre-teen self. Arthur Chappell

I used to have several keys which included my mother´s house keys and my brother´s. Now I returned my mother´s house keys (I suppose the new owners will change the locks). And I placed my brother´s keys elsewhere and I´m a happy person with 3 keys, all belonging to me.

These days I only have 4 keys, but when I was working I was on call in case of emergencies. As a result I had keys to the whole site, which probably amounted to around 25 or so.

I thought it would be important to have so many keys but it is a nusance. I have keys for my scooter and locks, for our apartment and for my PO Box and mailbox. I need the keys I have and i think there are keys I do not know what they go to anymore.

I have a lot of keys. Sometimes I even don't know which key I shall get rid of. I have keys for two houses, office, bank safe, home safe etc.

I carry my house key, car key and work key on my key rings. I don't have a thousand keys like some people do it's just too many to keep track of. I like it simple

Good idea that a heavy clump of keys is harder to lose. I used to have quite a few on a key ring and then a friend told me that having a lot of keys can do something to your car starter so down sized. My grandmother used to have a drawer half full of just keys. So help me. A lot of skeleton keys.

@celticeagle too much weight on the car ignition starter might damage the lock

I have lots of keys. I used to do odd jobs for neighbors, like care for pets. I have their keys. I have my house key, shed key, two car keys (no remote on my car). I clean a church so I have the church key, the shed key, the marquee key and some assorted other keys. There are some key factors in my life.

I have more than I care to count. I use three separate small rings. One for my car, one for work, and one for home.

Do you remember that strange time in the late 80s when some men used to have huge bunches of keys dangling off their belts like some sort of phallic fashion statements?

I have 3 keys on my keychain. They are from my apartment: main key to get in the front or back of the building, my own apartment, and small mailbox key. That's it.

I just carry my house key and car key at home. Here in Florida, I need the main door key, my apartment met, the mailbox key, and my car kept. Too many for me!

We only have three or four on each of the car key-rings. We each have a key to the mail-box and one set has a key to the workshops which are keyed alike. And a front door key. That's about it.
