Mildred the Cat – guilty as charged

Howdy, everybody. How’s it going? Not so well here. Something happened this morning, my mom is very upset, and I’m afraid I just might have “scratched” the hand that feeds me.
I didn’t mean to scratch her and I’m pretty sure it was an accident. Here’s what happened. My mom was working at her laptop. I, as is often the case, was sitting between her and the keyboard and her hands were around me trying to type. I guess, I think, somehow I got spooked by her moving hands, not realizing they were hers, thus the scratch.
I’m not making excuses but I did start life off abandoned and living a wild, crazy lifestyle until my mom rescued me at a yard sale. Unfortunately, sometimes I regress a bit, revert back to those days and do something not so nice.
It’s only a teensy weensy scratch, nothing serious, but my mom is still upset and feels sad. She says I only consider her a food and comforts provider. How can I make it up to her so she’s happy again and that hand continues to feed and comfort? What else can I do other than just keep looking as innocent and purrfect as possible?
Till next time, purrs, paws and high fives.
Worried and remorseful, Mildred the Cat

Dear Auntie Mildred the Cat,
You're the one who usually gives me the sage advice, but I'll try to make something up for this time. My Mama thinks I'm spiteful just because I wait a minute to get my revenge for hugging and kissing on me. (That's so embarrassing. I'm a full-grown boy kitty, and she still thinks I act like a teenage boy.) I'm pretty careful when I swat and nip, but sometimes she claims it hurts. I usually put her in time out, let her think about her transgressions, forgive her, let it slide, and don't mention it again. Doing something cute to make her laugh usually makes her forget. Humans have such short attention spans. Looking pitiful, sad, or scared can reap numerous benefits. I don't snuggle, but sometimes I do go submit to a quick rub. I don't meow much, but sometimes if I go to her and say something, she thinks I'm asking for catnip and forks it over. Of course, I'm asking for something else, but I play along to make her feel better. The two tricks with humans are to be incredibly cute and to play up the guilt trip. Humans are very subjective to guilt, especially when there is a cute cat involved. Milk it for all it's worth.
Just my suggestions.

Dearest and very wise Huckleberry - you are coming along handsomely! Such great advice for so young a cat and budding writer. I will take every bit of your advice. Right now, I'm keeping a very low profile and will continue until lunch time. I will then approach my mom, give her some extra leg rubs to help things along and then sit and stare at my food bowl until fed. That should get things back to normal. Like you said, humans are easily snapped out of their snits by a cute, clever cat.

@LindaCPearson It's good that they have such short attention spans and such a low tolerance for kitty cuteness. Suckers. The humans will fall for anything. Love, the Huckster

@OldRoadsOnceTraveled Dear Huckster. This is Mildred's mom. Mildred is fast asleep and I don't expect her up again till morning. Yes, you are right. We humans are suckers for our cute dear kitties and you and Mildred are definitly cute and dear.

Mildred, snuggle beside her and purr. Stay away from the laptop...that probably won't end well. Also try not to wrap around her feet when she walks....tripping would really get her upset.

Thanks for the suggestions and the support. I do wrap around her feet, especially on the stairs. I will definitely try to cut down on that!

I think she understands. Just keep it cool a while and let it go awhile.

I think if you give her a little time and lots of affection all will be well again very soon.

Cute, oh sorry, I mean you bad cat, Mildred, whatever were you thinking? I know, I know, you really didn't intend to scratch her. Maybe you were trying to play that game where you touch what the other person touches and she didn't remove her hand in time? If that's not what you were playing, don't say that it was, for lying isn't any better and I'm sure your mom will forget all about it once it's completely healed up.

You felines often don't realize how sharp your claws are! My cat and I often play at night when I get into bed and sometimes I'll get scratched when my cat gets too excited! I don't hold it against her!

You can always make an extra big fuss of her to say that you did not mean to do such a thing.
That way she should come around and forgive you your little mistake.
Make sure that you are extra nice to her though.

She looks so sweet and innocent, no way she did anything harmful on purpose.

I've just read all the comments and I think everyone else knows much more than I do about how to get back in your human's good books!
