How much money is worth it online?

United States

One of the main reasons I came to mylot in the first place was the promise of a chance to make a few cents for chatting online. I stayed because I love the contact with people. But that got me thinking. How much money do you need to make online to be worth it to you? I mean worth your time spent. Is there an amount per hour you aim for? Is it the how hard you work for that money? What are your criterias for online earnings?

I am off and on all day. I am a stay at home mom of two teens. When they were little I was constantly running. Now they are a little more independent. We home school and have a lot of projects that keep us busy but I can find a few minutes here and there to step on and type a little. Right now for example my hubby just left for work but the kids wont be up for another hour. I am starting to do dishes but after each sink load there will be a few minutes for them to drip before I dry them and I can sit down. I can either relax in front of the TV or I can be here visiting and making a few pennies.

@happythoughts You shouldn't worry much, try to do dropshipping in Ebay that is what few do it here.... And they earn good amount. It's actually on your luck, and how good you are ! And how you manage your seller and buyer.... Dropshipping doesn't require initial amount. You will be like on request from buyer you will be getting the money and then asking seller to ship the product to buyer. It's like intermediator*** There are plenty of option available - So give a try... Search on internet! if my idea helped you and get you some profit... keep me in your prayers That's all I need.

I work on several sites almost everyday. I have to because I do not have a job outside my home I became disabled and it is taking forever and ever to get anything done with them! So I only have my husbands income for now and I try to make as much as I can on line to help. I can say I do okay but no millionaire l.o.l. but I really wish I had every dime I have made on line I would be doing much better if I did L.O.L. But I have to help out around here.

I really believe that ever penny adds up. A few years ago when I was a stay at home mom and my hubbys check just made enough to cover the necessities I would work hard online. I was able to buy us little surprises that made every second online feel worth it. I was able to get us a new food dehydrator one year that didnt cost us a thing but stretched our food budget even further by reducing waste and letting us take advantage of good sales. It was all because I would sit at the computer and look for those pennies.

Good question. There isn't an hourly rate that I aim for, but I do usually have a figure in mind that I'd like to make everyday or every month. I kind of dip in and out of working online throughout the day. I spend more time not working than working. I made roughly $200 in Jan and Feb, and I've already beat that for this month. Is it worth my time? Yes, for the freedom, flexibility and solitude. It would be more worth it if I managed my time better to make more money.

That is awesome. I wouldn't turn down an extra $200 a month. How much time do you spend online a day?

@happythoughts - Thanks. I tend to spend a lot of time online. Couldn't give you a measure of hours. It's where I not only work but do other stuff like listen to music, watch stuff, pay bills, message folks, etc. (I don't have a TV, or want one). I guess it is to me what smartphones are to some people.

I don't have a specific amount but most of my online work can be done while I am at my full-time job so in a sense I am already getting paid and this is like bonus work. The fact that I am accomplishing something that is a residual pay so it will pay me for years to come is awesome. So almost like adding to a retirement fund. lol

Retirement funding seems like such a big task. We have been putting money aside like we know we should but then we look at how much it has added up and we have no idea if it will ever be enough. Its tough to see that far in the future. I make pennies here so that they will add into my savings account and some day I can travel as much as Id like to. I think it would be rough to retire and not have the funds to travel and see life happen.

Patience and persistence are very important things while trying to make money online. For example, I am working a part-time as a freelance writer, and I am satisfied so far. The earning is not big, but the job is easy and quite pleasant. As in any other off-line job, you need to work really hard in order to start making some serious money online. But be sure, it is certainly possible, and I know people who have done that already.

@ramapo17 Mostly, I write SEO articles. Unfortunately, English is my second language and I am still not totally proficient at it. Luckily, it is not hard to write SEO text. I find the jobs online on sites and forums like Digital Forum, iWriter and Craiglist.

What do you write about. Do you chose what you want or does someone tell you what they need. Do you have to go to the people or do you mail your writing to someone?

One of my favorite things about Mylot is that I can type what I have to say then walk away. I can come back when its convenient. I love that I can carry on conversations and still get my day done. The money is a great perk but I'm not hitting anywhere neat $250 a month.

I don't really have any goals when it comes to earning money online. I'd like my earnings to be a bit higher, but it just some extra cash for me, so I guess it doesn't really matter all that much.

I am not on to any site except mylot. I believe $10 per day worth 9~10 hrs a day is sufficient. If you are making that much then you are doing fine if not then you need to think about some more sites or need to work hard on the sites you are working on.

@sjvg1976 You are for sure right. Its great to be rewarded for the hard work you do. I think I will set a goal today to make $10 online and see how many hours it really takes me. Thank you for the inspiration.

@happythoughts money is earned through hard work only. So if you want to earn it then you need to work for it.

Oh, how funny! My "criteria" for being here and earning on this site is exactly the same "criteria" as on any other site I have ever "worked" on.... and it is very simple, too. 1. It must be a site where I can feel like I am needed and wanted by others who are on the site. (Yep! I know how that makes me sound. Like a wimp seeking the approval of others. So be it!) 2. There must be others who can hold my attention and hopefully, become friends. (Still sounds like a wimp, to me.) 3. I must enjoy myself there. (Self-serving, anyone?) 4. The people must be friendly and willing to let others get to know them... (LMFAO!) Let me think for a moment, please... So far (myLot says I have been here getting close to two years now) this site has met my expectations and wants. That it has also provided some people I consider friends in real life as well as friends online is a bonus. It has even provided some people I feel are family, too. (What other site could I go around calling an Indian man my little brother on? I can guarantee that is novel and unique!) Where else would I find people who care enough that they are willing, when I disappear from the site, to contact me in various other ways besides through that site itself, to make sure I am missing because I want/need to be missing and not because I have forgotten the site exists? Who cares if we make pennies for being here! That isn't one of my requirements and never has been!
