I was reading the craziest story today. There is a famous couple in my country, the husband is a very wealthy businessman and the woman used to be an actress but after their marriage, she was devoted to volunteering and organizing charities. I was reading the news this afternoon and I was surprised to read that the couple has decided to take a divorce. But this was just the beginning. According to the article, the woman informed the family pilot that she wanted to fly to another country with the private jet of her husband, and run away with a big collection of jewelry and other valuable items that worth a few hundred thousands pounds! The story is still developing and I am very curious to see what will happen next.

The divorce is not finalized yet. They are still in the process of seperating properties and he claims that she violated the discussed terms by taking the valuables.

@ridingbet I am not sure about the legal terms. They are in the process of the divorce but they are still married technically so these valuables still belong to both of them, right?

This kind of marriages happen very often, it is sad to see them fail eventually. Sometimes they might work, I thought that this couple would last. They were together for many years.

@besweet As a gift, probably. But what if they weren't as a gift, but as a wife? And no longer wife does that mean she has to return all the items purchased? No clue what is in their contract.

@infatuatedbby How can she prove it though, that they were gifts? I think that if she had purchased valuables during the marriage, they would belong to both until the details of the divorce are finalized.

I think they did have one. He is a very powerful man and his layers had probably prepared an agreement before the marriage. What if some of the valuables were gifts? Do you think she owns them after the divorce?

I hope she is safe wherever she decided to go. Sometimes people with power can take everything away, she had a TV show that was cancelled after the divorce announcement and probably also had a prenup agreement before the marriage.

Those things seem to happen. Both my brother's first and second wife took all the valuables and ran away.

How did your brother handle it? I think that the wife here must have had a prenup agreement, so I am not sure about the legal consequences of her action.

The husband is very powerful here so I think the pilot couldn't keep it a secret! They are looking for her and they have sent a court order to auctionees in case the valuable items are listed for sale.

@JudyEv The husband says that she fled the country yesterday and that he has a court order for London auctioneers Christie's to notify them if they have any transactions with the wife. She landed there with the valuables, but they haven't found her yet. All this happened according to the journalists of this article.

I think that she will be arrested if she comes back. It looks like a desperate move. Her show was cancelled when the divorce was announced and it looks like she doesn't intend to come back after this.

If the jewellery belongs to her {gifts from the husband or whatnot} then there isn't much they can do about it, surely? Sounds a tad mysterious.

I am not sure about the ownership of the valuables. They could be gifts but how can this be proved in court? The article made it sound like the valuables were not hers legally.
