Riding Through Wildflowers

A few people have been posting photos lately of the spring flowers around their homes. I have enjoyed every one of them. This morning, just after dawn, I went horseback riding with friends through a field of California wildflowers ... Marguerites, wild mustard, geraniums, daisies and a few others. I took a photo while I was on the horse and thought I would share it here. What you can't appreciate in the photo is all the wildlife. There were baby bunnies the size of mice scurrying into the flowers, chipmunks, squirrels, and a variety of birds singing and flitting around. As the picture shows, we could see for miles ... all the way to the mountains. What a wonderful reason to get up early!

What a beautiful area you were riding in this morning. We had intermittent rain all day (again).

@JamesHxstatic - I'm glad she survived, too! We are very lucky to still have her with us. I guess I shouldn't complain about the rain, even if it comes.

I love to ride here. It is lovely and very peaceful. It feels so rural, it is hard to believe I am in the middle of Orange County, only a few miles from the beach. I'm sorry to hear you had rain. We are going to spend the weekend in the Napa Valley to celebrate our daughter's birthday this weekend (the one who had the brain aneurysm a couple of years ago.) I hope it isn't rainy while we are there!

@DeborahDiane Glad you can enjoy it. Horses and I don't get along too well, but I'd love to walk among the flowers.

@bagarad - You would love this area in the spring, then. We sometimes throw out seeds in the fall while we horseback ride, so we have an excess of flowers in the spring!

@bagarad - I go riding every weekend and, now that it is spring again, all the wildflowers are back in bloom. It is so gorgeous!

@Marymargll - I have ridden most of my life. When our children were growing up, we owned several horses. Now I don't own one; our retirement community has a barn and horses. It also owns the 23 acres shown in the photo above, where we can ride. There are also equestrian trails through the community. It is my favorite amenity here. Here's a photo of our barn.

@MarymargII - Yes, I am so happy that I can still ride. I hope I can well into my 80s. Some of the women here do.

Horse riding is not something that everyone does. Do you own the horse. I can imagine how satisfied you must have been breezing through those beautiful sights.

@allknowing - We owned horses for our children when they were growing up. However, our retirement community owns horses which I can use, so I don't have to own one now. It is much cheaper and easier to have someone else own it. I love being able to ride. It is something I have done for many years.

@silvermist - That is how I feel, too. I enjoy the flowers while they last! If we get a little rain in the spring, the flowers will last longer.

@silvermist - I have to confess that we do not have fields of flowers all year long. By mid-summer, they will have dried up into brown stalks. This time of year is very nice, however.

I also love to get up early and to enjoy the first hours of the day. Shame that they have stolen one hour of light to those who are not night owl.

@DianneN - We are so fortunate that our community owns this land where we can ride or walk. Of course, here in California this field will look brown and dried up by August. It is gorgeous now, however!
