Something terrible and unexpected happened this evening on I-85 in Atlanta. There was a huge fire under the road and a large section of the road fell down. We watched the flames until they were finally contained. There were still huge clouds of smoke covering the whole area.
.A reporter said flammable material must have been stored under the road. If that's true someone will be in big trouble. Many people are stuck on the road and don't know how long before they can get out. I didn't hear that anyone was on that section of the road when it collapsed. I certainly hope not, there would be no survivors.
It will take months to build that section of the road. My son and grand son use I-85 every morning and evening going to and from work. I have no idea what route they can take to get to work.. Many people are stranded. It's really a mess. Did you see it on TV?

Drivers in one of the world's most congested cities woke up to a jarring new reality Friday as they were forced to game out how to get around a collapsed portion of Atlanta's Interstate 85 -- one of the Southeast's major north-south arteries.

@RubyHawk Sorry to hear that! Do they have any news on the cause of the fire yet?

No, I don't have cable hook up at present, we're merely using a Raku player when we want to watch a movie or something. My main news info is here unless my husband happens to inform me of something he's read online. Maybe I'll go look it up sometime.
I couldn't figure out why it would take so long to get it fixed, but it was an area that was suspended it sounds like and that would make more sense.
An elevated section of northbound Interstate 85, a major north-south artery for the Southeast, collapsed Thursday evening in Atlanta after a massive fire, officials said.

@RubyHawk That's what they said. If it was a normal section of roadway that wasn't suspended then they could probably do something quick while working on something longer lasting.

Wow, that is awful.
We haven't seen this on the news. Isn't that odd.

We never have the TV on until 8 PM, so I had not heard. What an awful thing to happen through carelessness.
