Running on batteries

We've had four nights away in our camper and are home again now. We've had a very relaxing time. It was our first time away in the camper and we are pleased with how it towed and how it is fitted out, etc. Six couples camped in the caravan park the first night and seven the next two nights. The men went off and played golf each day. The first day five women and three dogs went out for coffee and cake but the second morning with six of us and four dogs we gathered at one of the caravans and had coffee and home-make cake. It was easier that way with so many dogs. There was a Maltese/Shih Tzu cross, a dachshund, a Yorkshire terrier and a toy poodle. The last two were just pups but had such a lot of fun playing together. The photo shows the poodle. I thought he looked like a loosely stuffed toy complete with a very fully-charged battery. I wish I had half the energy of either of the pups. And isn’t it hard to get a decent photo of puppies playing?

Is your book launch tomorrow? I had an idea you mentioned somewhere that it was. You will be well and truly ready for a few days off.

@JudyEv yes, tonight at 5.30 pm. Just doing last minute things. It has become a big community event, and I feel like a celebrity for 24 hours!! In 7 hours the book becomes public property

Oh my gosh this little guy is so cute! I have no doubt any of those pups would have fully-charged and instantly rechargeable batteries! Sounds like you had a wonderful trip!

@JudyEv I wonder what kind of batteries the puppies thought their people had?

Sounds like the place was 'for the dogs'....Most RV parks don't allow the dogs to run free from the way I understand it. Guess it's different there.

@JudyEv I know a couple in FL - they have a beautiful extremely expensive motor home. They had it customized with a slide out for the cats - the slides are screened on three sides and they slide out the cats have the feeling they are outside even though they can't escape.

They were on leads most of the time but one owner had taken a Weldmesh cage about the size of a playpen so they were let off the lead while they were in that. Last time we were at that park we even saw a cat on a lead being taken for a walk.

@AbbyGreenhill Lucky cats! The newest 'rigs' here have slide-outs too. They look very fancy.

I can understand that. He is a 'toy' which I think is the smallest size. The standards are always much larger than I think they are going to be. Apparently after he has been clipped a couple of times, he will have tight curls.

This pup sure looks like the mechanaized toy which I had bought from Singapore - my first foreign trip That toy could also bark.

@JudyEv As I was typing my response I did think the word bark would not suit a puppy (lol)

This one could bark too although a better word would be 'yip' rather than bark.

The husbands played golf each day and the ladies just socialised. We went out for dinner one evening and ate together the other days.

That is a sweet looking little dog. My brother has a dachshund and she is as good as gold. I'm here to say a quick hello. We've been running full steam ahead and loving every minute of it. Sounds like you had a nice trip and enjoyed your camper.

It's nice that more and more parks and other areas are allowing dogs on leads. There were a lot of dogs at the park. Everyone is very good about picking up the droppings too - luckily.

Yes it is difficult to get a photo of a playing dog. And indeed it looked like a stuffed toy with batteries. It would play when it is switched on and be quiet when switched of.

i would be more at ease hanging out with the group in one of the caravans, too. in a "paid" place, i get uncomfortable when i'm "overstaying." and the homemade cake gives it the feel of being in a friend's kitchen. i would love to have watched those dogs and their antics. i love short-legged dogs.

We had coffees and lunch at one cafe so I don't think the people minded that we were there such a long time. But it was easier and more convenient just to hang out at the van area.
