Free Friday Haircuts at Midday

I've recently read a post by much2say - SmilePie (@much2say) about haircuts. I've put the link at the end. It reminded me of a barber in a small country town. Vince always got his hair cut there and negotiated a deal where he paid upfront for a year's haircuts at a slightly cheaper rate. He figured occasionally he'd miss a cut or go less regularly and the barber was assured of his business so both were happy. Of course, after Vince had paid his money, he would sometimes get out of the chair saying he wasn't going to pay as the water was cold or it was a bad haircut or whatever. Then one Friday when he went for his haircut at midday, the barber said it was free. He'd decided the first haircut after midday on a Friday was free. This was just a joke between Vince and the barber but the customers waiting would have heard. We often wondered how many of them turned up on a Friday at midday hoping for a free haircut. Photo is of Petal, a rescue sheep who was badly in need of a haircut.
I met a barbershop owner who told me I would not believe how many people come into his shop having the nerve to ask for a free haircut. He told me a story of...

@Happy2BeMe @much2say I didn't realise this posted twice so as you were the only two who commented on the other one, I've deleted it. Sorry about that but hopefully it will only cost a penny or two.

By the following Friday the hair-dresser would have forgotten that he ever said it.

I think the winter will come to Australia and why not have a haircut for this sheep in summer? Or perhaps its hair can grow so soon so that it will stay warm in winter?

@much2say She could actually run quite fast. There is no way you could catch her. We got her into a small yard eventually and caught her.

That's funny, it's never occurred to me to haggle over a year's hair-cutting contract. But then it wouldn't of course as I haven't had my hair cut for at least 15 years.

@JudyEv I just trim it myself. But my hair doesn't grow indefinitely. It seems everyone has a natural limit to how long their hair will grow; for some people it will reach the ground but for me it will never reach beyond the middle of my back even if I never cut it for the rest of my life!

@Fleura I've heard that before. I wonder how long mine would grow if I just left it. I haven't made an appointment for another trim so perhaps I'll just let it keep going.

How long is your hair now or do you trim the ends yourself?

@JudyEv does that mean she has free rein on what to do with your hair or you still explain your preference?

@sol_cee No, she does whatever you ask. I don't know why she is so cheap. She has a little salon but doesn't employ anyone so I guess her overheads are quite low.

It's expensive here too but I have been going to the same person for years and she charges about a third of what everyone else does so I'm very lucky.

That poor sheep in that photo. Wonder if he feels he is carrying a load. Eavesdropping does not always pay

That's true but the other customers would have been battling not to hear what was being said as it is only a small salon, no separate cubicles.

Oh that poor sheep. That picture reminds me of a shot I saw of a rescued poodle who'd been neglected for too long.

That's very clever! I really admire you for doing that. Vince has a beard-trimmer device so he can do that himself but he goes to the barber for his haircuts.

@Jessicalynnt I don't think I'd know if someone missed responding to my comment - unless I was really interested in what they might say or if I'd asked a specific question.

Sorry for the late response. I thought I'd check out my old posts and I'm finding a lot of responses I haven't replied to. Another month or two and Petal would have had dreadlocks.

Petal is the woolliest sheep I have ever seen. What happens if a sheep isn't shorn? How do they function with all that wool?

It was a very funny little town. We once really saw a kangaroo hopping down the main street but didn't have a camera with us. The highway went through the middle of the town and became the 'main street' for a few hundred yards.

Petal needs to get to a free hair cut. Consider the amount of trimming to be done she will have to go after midday

One fleece isn't worth much so we let the shearer keep it. Petal is a ewe. We gave her to my nephew and she has since had twin lambs.
