The Light Is Getting Brighter...

Well… It turns out that in Jacksonville, certain crimes get automatically forwarded to the crime advocacy department. Especially those who have bodily injury. Such as mine. I got a surprise call today from the crime advocacy department, letting me know that they received a copy of a police report from the sheriff’s department, concerning my robbery. The lady was really sweet, and asked me if I was carrying that amount of cash, due to paying bills, and/or rent? I confirmed with her that I was on my way to get a money order to pay my rent. She figured so... Then she proceeded to tell me that she wanted to set up an appointment up with me, to meet with a caseworker this coming Monday. She asked me to bring certain documentation with me, and said they were going to pay my rent, and electric bill for me. Here I thought that I was going to have to chase these organizations down. Spending a substantial amount of time, before I would get the help that I needed. And here God’s mercy gave me favor, where I did not have to lift a finger. They called me, and said they wanted to help. It is on the north side of town, which is quite a ways for me to travel, but it will be well worth the trip. I am grateful. Turns out… While I was at the police station, and standing in line...a lady in front of me had been robbed too. However, she did not fair as well. They beat her in the face, head, and other parts of her body. They had to take crime scene photos, because there was blood everywhere. She was about my age, or a little older. She was there to get copies of her report too. However, she wanted to get photos of the crime scene, as well. However...the police told her that they were not public record, and even though she was the victim, she was not allowed to get them. I just think this is odd. She is probably filing a case against these individuals, and needs the evidence. Maybe her attorney, can get a subpoena issued to get them.

her attorney can prob get what she needs, or can get access to them at least. I am glad there is something there that seems to be helping!

I'm relieved to know you are getting some help. God bless whoever started that program! What a relief you must feel! I find it suspect that that lady could not get photos but maybe it's police procedure to prevent photos from being published before they finish their investigation and court case. They could lose a prosecution if the photos are published and the jury pool is tainted by them.

I'm so glad to hear that things are continuing to look up for you. What a wonderful blessing from God that you do not have to worry about the upcoming rent payment and electric bill. It is much, much better than being on the street with little or no hope.

So glad you are getting help and sharing details here. Many don't know they can get help if they are victim of certain crimes. Yes, it is odd that the woman can't get the photos. Hope they straighten that out.
