Mylot tags do not support the £ sign

I discovered this purely by chance. Recently I submitted a discussion concerning the new £1 coin issued in Britain. As part of the discussion I used the £ sign in the main text, the title and also a tag. It was shortly afterwards that I noticed the tag which should have read “£1 coin” actually stated “1 coin”. Assuming this to be a typing error on my behalf, I edited the post in order to amend the tag. However the £ sign still did not appear, despite several attempts. I would have presumed that the tags would support the same characters and symbols as the body of text or the title, although this does not appear to be the case. I find myself curious as to whether other members have had similar issues with other symbols.

Not really, but I haven't been too active lately and since I use a desktop, I tihnk the tags would accept all symbols on the keyboard, because it doesn't have symbols like phones or tablets have.

@Asylum Oh, what I meant was, on my desktop keyboard, there is no sign like that, not as far as I can see.

@Carmelanirel2 That is quite likely, but of course I have a British keyboard so the symbol is essential.

It hasn't happened to me.I doubt if the $ sign can appear in the tag box.

No it cannot because I tested that earlier when someone mentioned it.

Apparently that does not work either, although I have not tried.

@Asylum and the bad word detector does kick in, but if you use symbols to fool it, spaces appear instead.

@pgntwo Using characters to cheat the profanity filter and submitting bad words contravenes the guidelines anyway.

symbols show for a while as tags then they go away once you refresh.

@Mike197602 Not when you are discussing a £1 coin.

@Asylum maybe...but I think symbols as tags are pretty much useless.

I have never tried to put a symbol as a tag before. You raise an interesting question.

This is something that came as a surprise to me, so I must never have tried using a symbol in a tag before either, despite being here for over 10 years now.

I'd be surprised if it does show... I've known for a while they won't take symbols, not even common punctuation marks like hyphens, for instance...

It was something new to me because it was the first symbol that I had cause to try.

Well I tagged my own comment with the $ sign so we shall see if it works? I have never tried to use a symbol, as far as I can recall, to tag.

It would appear not. Joliet Jake seems to think that no symbols work in tags, which is looking like being the case.

@Asylum It is really odd as it showed up for me, and now it is gone...

I can understand that, but naturally it is a standard key on a British keyboard.

@JolietJake No, it is above the 3 key. I also have the $ sign, which is above the 4 key. Since $ is a very popular world currency and £ is our currency, we have a use for both.

@garymarsh6 That may be a good point because considering the age of my keyboard it must be an old £.

I don't know about all those other symbols used and I'm not really sure that I've seen many even in the titles or body of the text, but I do know that when we use an apostrophe it will change it to '039' or something like that in place of the ' . Bubblews did the same thing and I think that's common for other sites too. If I think about it I try to remember to spell out the words rather than use the apostrophe. At least on mylot it stays what it's supposed to be for the title whereas on bubblews it would switch to match the url. One thing I've noticed before mylot upgraded and even now is that even though tagging is allowed in the comments it doesn't work correctly. I brought that to bugsy's attention a couple of months ago and he said he'd look into it, but it doesn't seem to be on the front burner yet since it still doesn't work. What it does when you use tags in the comments is it will show any posts using those same tags but your comment doesn't show up with the posts.

hmmm, but i wonder why i can see the pound sign now at the title of your discussion, but i guess you have to put the word 'pound' to signify the sign on tags.

I can easily use the £ sign in the title or any other text, just not as a tag.

I don't think the tags really show special characters, will they? I don't know, i never tried.

This was the first time that I had ever tried, but sadly it would not submit.
