Focus on Health

I went for my annual physical a couple of weeks ago. My doctor asked me how my book was coming along and I told her I'm just too tired all the time. I'm just not sleeping well. She decided to try a different sleep medication (which she suggested last year but I said no because I didn't want side effects). I also told her I've been smelling things that aren't there. So she wants to have a brain scan done of my olfactory system. I learned that the Ontario (or maybe Canadian) government has changed the pap screening tests from yearly to every 3 years. That means if you develop cervical or ovarian cancer it won't be caught early. I said, even though I have had some abnormal results in the past and had to have biopsies? Yup... unless I want to pay for it. So I really need to focus on my health, especially reducing stress. I tried a new sleeping medication that indicates "take 1-4 pills at bedtime". The pharmacist told my husband I should start with one and build up. I had one. I didn't get to sleep until early morning. After waking up from that sleep I had a major medication hangover - headache, dizziness, weakness, unsteady on my feet. So, not taking that medication again. It took me 3 days to feel "normal" again. So I'm back on my previous medication but I am taking it much earlier so that I go to sleep soon after going to bed. It's working better, but still not perfect. That's the nature of fibromyalgia. You just can't control your sleep - getting to sleep, staying asleep, depth of sleep.

I hate those medication hangovers. I'm glad you found the way to have your sleeping pill work for you. It is true, fibromyalgia does have a mind of it's own.

The nature of the illness causes the lack of deep sleep. Not much I can do about it.

@patgalca I know that this is caused by your illness, I hope the doctor may give you something to help.

@LadyDuck I'm sticking with my old medication. Just taking it a lot earlier in the evening. Which means at this time of night I can barely keep my eyes open so should probably head to bed.
