I got pricked by a sea urchin

Holiday Nightmare! At times our holidays don't turn out how we expected them to be. Yesterday, I came across an article where a tourist got bitten by a snake. This brought back some memories of my camping trip in 2013. We were playing water volleyball when I accidentally stepped on a sea urchin. I started feeling a severe burning pain in my left foot. I had to immediately get out of the water. My cousin tried to remove the spine using a pair of tweezers but was unsuccessful as the spine was deep inside. We went to the hospital and they did an x-ray and shortly thereafter they successfully removed three spines. However my foot was paining very badly and they gave me some pain killers. Fortunately the pain subsided the next day but I had to be careful. I guess many of you have some interesting holiday stories. Feel free to share

one of our holidays in the 70's was partly ruined when a friend of my dad's broke his shoulder diving into sea water and hitting the rocks - my parents spent the rest of the day in the hopital casualty department

@Nawsheen oh yes, though he spent the rest of the holiday with his arm in a sling - it was a rotten holiday all round - the only one where we collectively agreed to come home two days early

It sounds very scary. Thank God that you were able to get immediate treatment and you came out of your agony. I can't recall any such experience.

I am sorry that happened to you. I got stung by a jelly fish on my foot on one trip to the beach, luckily I just took medicine and didn't have to go to the doctor. Another time, I got stung on the foot by a yellow jacket bee while on vacation at a tourist spot and had to go to the tourist infirmary where they put medicine on it.

Oh so sorry to hear about that. I read about how painful it can be if you get stung by a jellyfish. Some have compared it to being burned by am iron. Fortunately you didnt have to go to the doctor. I remembered we once went to the fields and my dad got stung by 2-3 wasps. It did hurt him so much

Ouch, a sea urchin is extremely painful, I know very well because I got picked too. The spines break inside and it's hard to take them out.

I guess you must be aware of the ''Flic en Flac'' beach. It happened over there. There are so much corals in the lagoon over there. But in the North you can enjoy swimming without worry

@garymarsh6 i strongly agree with you on this. The sand is so fine over there and there are no corals to disturb you while you are swimmimg. Pereybere is like a a ''natural swimming pool'' to me

@PainsOnSlate we have lots of sea urchin over here in Mauritius. They are fragile. When we were small we used to collect the spines and were using it to write on our slates

ouch. I can feel your pain. we went swimming but not in the beach. equally fun. I don't like the beach as much as I do before when I got pricked by a sea urchin too. Good thing the locals in that area is really knowledgeable about how to remove it.

That sounds very painful. My most interesting holiday was this past October when I went on holiday with a friend from my writer's group. We went to an island gotten to only by ferry, and had an enjoyable three days exploring the island and enjoying the wonderful food and the ultimate friendliness of the people who live there.
