Sweet as Tupelo Honey--no, really, this is about real Tupelo honey!

I was talking with my friends yesterday and the subject of honey came up. Apparently honey from the Tupelo blossom in the panhandle of Florida and other parts of the southeast is the most expensive and best honey in the country. I looked it up and yes, it's true. It's so pure that it doesn't crystallize as it ages.
It has a high fructose/low glucose ratio that make it better for some diabetics than other types of honey; average analysis: fructose 44.03% glucose 29.98%.
My ex is a type 2 diabetic and has to watch his sugar so I ordered him some today. His birthday isn't until June but this is spring and the honey is being made and I don't want to wait until it is all sold out.
He's very hard to buy for since any time he wants something he gets it. If he doesn't have the money he'll use a credit card. But I know he does not have any Tupelo honey and he really does love honey!
Have you every had Tupelo honey?

I always just assumed it was a song by Van Morrison, honestly.

Me, too! I never heard of it before yesterday. I'd like to have some, too, and might if my finances straighten out a bit.

I ordered it today through Amazon but there are many companies that sell it. If you want some, research it a little and be sure it's not blended with other honeys. It's about $1 an ounce average. I paid $25 for 16 ounces and the company was a reputable, well known among its peers company.
If you find cheaper honey that claims to be Tupelo, chances are good that it's not pure. At least that's what I read before making a decision.

I guess the glycemic index is different for this honey, or so I read on many sites. Some doctors said it was okay for diabetics, some said be careful with any type of sugar. Since my ex can eat fairly normally I thought it would make a good birthday present that he would never think of but really like.

Looks very good quality Honey.
There are a few good honey brands here but wild Honey is quite hard to come buy unless you go to a special shop.
Never eaten that kind of Honey.

We have a lot of honey from cacti here in Arizona but I don't like it very much. I;m sure I'll get a taste of that Tupelo honey when I give it to him!

@dragon54u
From the Cacti?
Oh they have flowers don´t they?
At least I think they do.
Is that a bitter taste with it like sort of a rosehip berry taste?

I have heard of it in a song, and now I have to go search this out. Did you also know honey is the only food that will never ever go bad?

I did learn that recently, it's astounding isn't it? Also, I learned that it is great to smear onto wounds and it helps them heal faster. It truly is a miracle food.

@dragon54u I didn't know that about wounds, however it is pretty darn amazing. I had to go look at the tupelo honey and I bought a 16 ounce jar for 23 bucks on amazon just now. I will get it in 2 days so looking forward to trying it.

Tupelo honey doesn't granulate. There is something about the nectar it's made of that prevents that.

Me, too. I do like honey but I prefer honey from the Midwest to the honey they produce here in Arizona. I've never had honey from the south before but I'll bet it tastes good!

I don't eat much honey, either, the jars usually end up crystallizing from lack of use. This honey won't crystallize, apparently. I hope he likes it.

You're welcome. But remember, some docs say it has benefits and some say it doesn't in regards to diabetes. If you try it be sure to ask your doctor.

@dragon54u I don't use honey a lot, but I like to have it for certain recipes. And I do check my blood sugar to make sure I'm doing okay. If I had the honey and suddenly had a spike, I would know that it's problematic to my system. Thanks for the reminder! We all need them!

lol, it's my ex husband. He's one of my best buddies, as is his wife, but that's a cute comment. I guess a friend would be a honey since friends are loved.
