The incredible kindness of strangers

I've been very ill the past few days. Some of you know that after I quit smoking I have quite a bit of difficulty breathing. Well, I got the cold or whatever crud is going around and it hit me quite hard because of my compromised lungs.
I was able to get out of bed, finally, last night and made my way to the pharmacy. I have an inhaler my doctor prescribed but for some reason Primatene does me the most good so I went to get some. As a side note, if I had the Primatene inhaler I would never have gotten so sick but that was taken off the market a few years ago because of environmental concerns. My prescription inhaler is little better than nothing compared to Primatene.
So I make my way clear to the back of the store, out of breath, grab the cardboard representation to give to the cashier then see that I'm 8th in line. Gasping for breath, I take my place. The two ladies in front of me say they'll save my place if I want to sit down and I gladly take them up on it.
The lady I sit next to is upset by my distress and rubs my back and asks if there is anything she can do. We talk awhile, she's a preschool teacher with shoulder pain from carrying babies all day. Soon the two ladies have their turn and they tell me to go ahead of them!
What wonderful people I met! How nice of them to put aside their own pains and symptoms to help me, a complete stranger! I think there are more people like this out there than we know about. When was the last time a stranger was kind to you?

I've encountered a lot of rude strangers than good one.It also took me few minutes to recall a kind deed by a strangers.I always encounter dumb strangers when I go out. I try my best to be a little kinder.

That was nice of him/her and probably the best thing for you! I hope this isn't a regular occurrence!

That was so sweet of them to do that for you @dragon54u . I was in the grocery line a few weeks ago and thought I was going to faint. The cashier told the sacker to run and get me a chair. The sacker even put his arm around me and walked me to the car.

What a great cashier, they usually aren't so observant. It's so nice when people go the extra mile! I hope you felt well enough to drive! I have had that happen at times after I turned 60 and I don't know why. I think all the stress. Were you sick that day or something coming on? I'm so glad you got home safe--I assume you did or you would not be here!

@dragon54u The cashier knows me well and if I'm not laughing, joking or carrying on; somethings wrong. With my skull plates separating, it is pressing down on the cervical spine and causing migraines and dizziness. Yeah, I made it home. Thankfully the grocery store is only 3 miles from my house.

That was so kind of them. Last week someone let us go ahead of them at the store becaus we only had three items and they had like 20. We always do that ourselves. So it was like good karma

I love it when someone does that. I'm never in a hurry now so I do it often. If it's a mom with a crying child I'll let her ahead no matter how much she has.

Me, too. The one I remember most up till now was long ago when I had to go to the grocery with my two boys, then 2 and 3. I was at the end of my rope, trying to get the food into the car and manage the boys, too, and began to cry. A woman passing by stopped and put her arms around me and shushed the boys. She gave me a hug and helped me put everything in the car, included the boys, and made me laugh with tales of herself in years gone by with her own two boys. What an angel! I didn't get her name but I'll always remember her kindness.

I think most people are good and kind, we are just used to the media showing us the worst. How sweet of those women to give you something, too!

I am out of bed! That is big progress in itself. I'll be fine in a couple of days. I rarely get sick but it seems after I quit smoking every little thing at least nips at my heels if not bites me full force!
I will always remember those people and I hope God will indeed bless them for their kind hearts.

Yes, if you're in line at a pharmacy there is obviously something wrong with you or someone you care about. To let someone ahead of you is a real sacrifice.

It most certainly does! When it seems all we hear is bad news and how horrible people are to each other, something like this is like an oasis in the desert!
