It's when they copy your post word for word and expect to get away with it
which one of yours was copied?

@responsiveme It might have been - if I hadn't changed my mind about not being on Mylot that day.

I know what it is but to spot it is tough. Some folks are just better at seeing it. I am not.

@Kandae11 I still might not realize it was plagiarism. Maybe only if it was my writings.

@fishtiger58 Yes , it can be difficult to spot if it isn't your own work plagiarised.

Passing any work created by others whether published or not as if you created it yourself is plagiarism. It really is that simple - it is easier to spot if the work copied is already online or in print and pre-dates your own work - plagiarism is intellectual property theft

There are several posts already written on the subject. I am seeing some on the right side of this post.

Plagiarism is somebody writes something. You take it, rewrite it and put your name to it so you can take credit for the work. It's thievery. It's a downright nuisance.
Did you know that the Chinese would intentionally place a well-hidden mistake into their work so that if somebody copied it they could catch them? It's not likely the "copier" would be able to point out the "hidden mistake". But the originator would know. I read that somewhere. I don't know if that's true but it sounds like a really smart idea!!

It is a waste of time to write about it only because the ones who do it don't care. A better post would be about reading the guidelines and all the "Help" info.. Good idea though and hopefully someone will write about it. I'm still just trying to catch up....

@Kandae11 I agree but they still won't read it, they are too busy posting stolen posts from the internet....

This dictionary definition of plagiarism is:
"an act or instance of using or closely imitating the language and thoughts of another author without authorization and the representation of that author's work as one's own, as by not crediting the original author."
the idea is not just copying, but copying without 1) giving credit and 2) without authorization. The copying doesn't have to be word for word. It can also by a close imitation. If, for example, in school, I copy ideas from my roommate's paper and just change a few words, hand the paper in as my own, that is plagiarism.
Plagiarism is frowned upon because it robs the original writer of credit due and allows someone who didn't write it to reap reward who not owed.
Has that helped?

Very simple. If I type your post as it is and post in my name then this is plagiarism. Sometimes, there are certain guidelines issues defining what plagiarism is. You should write in your own language and style whatever your write.

I am sure I wrote about it on another site but some just will cheat anyway if they are so inclined and think they can get away with it.
