Fishes were created to be caught and eaten by men.

This discussion has its genesis in a discussion started by our friend Cristy
@magallon regarding catching fishes by fishermen.
Many of us who love to take non-vegetarians dishes relish fish fry, fish curry and roasted fish etc. as delicacies. However, if you see how a fish is caught and when pulled out of water and how she writhes in pain before dying, you may not feel good.
Our friend @magallon is of the view that God created fishes so that human beings could catch and eat them.
I am of the view that when someone catches fish, they die untimely death which is unfair.
I would like to know your views on the issue - are all animals such as fishes, beef, goat, lamb and chicken etc. were created by the Great God so that we could kill them at our will and eat them?

It is fine that Bible has a list of animals who have been created by the God and are meant to be eaten. Should everyone go by the words written in the Bible. As our friend @LadyDuck has rightly pointed out that Bible was written by human beings.

We need to survive and therefore nothing can be fair in front of human beings. I am not a vegetarian, so I can't judge the people who eat meats. Fish is a common meat here and we like to steam them much more because we think the taste will be fresh.

@youless If you are not a vegetarian then it means you eat non vegetarian items and fish is a non vegetarian item.

@LadyDuck - Yeah, it was written thousands of years ago and we just cannot imagine what were the circumstances prevailing at that point of time.

@dpk262006 Not only it was written by human beings, but it was written so many years after the world has been created that it's hard to think that it can be accurate, even considering how many different translation were made of the same original text.

I don't think so. Human is such a clever ANIMAL that it can create any beliefs to justify its actions and satisfy its wishes.

Though you have written a brief answer, however, it makes sense
and you are very right that it is the human being who device their own ways and means to defend any of their actions, be it killing of animals or destroying the natural resources or anything else.

All of us know the life of all creatures are precious and worth. Even though human beings do what they want and go for their preference. If we think the way of 'sin' then perhaps we can't eat anything. I mean the fruits and vegetables also has life that is why they grow and ripe.

Yes, human beings act according to their whims and fancies and they give all kind of justification for their actions. Yes, you are very right that fruits and vegetables also are living thing and we cultivate them and eat them, however, my point was confined to killing of animals only for eating purpose.

I was watching a docu about dolphins lastnight. How they catch their fish. Very interesting. No goat or lamb for me thank you.

Dolphin may catch the fish but they are not fish. Even though they live in the ocean all of the time, dolphins are mammals, not fish. Like every mammal, dolphins are warm blooded. Unlike fish, who breathe through gills, dolphins breathe air using lungs. Dolphins must make frequent trips to the surface of the water to catch a breath. The blowhole on top of a dolphin's head acts as a "nose," making it easy for the dolphin to surface for air.

Human beings are designed to be omnivores. Even our ancestors were meat eaters. And our digestive system was designed to allow for the digestion of meat and related products.
Meat is far rich in protein compared to plants. Amino acids are very important. You get the necessary proteins to make you stronger and proteins which are good for your joints and bones. The amino acids helps improve the neurotransmitter efficiency of the brain

I am not sure if our digestive system has been designed for eating non vegetarian food.
Our ancestors might have some reasons or compulsions due to which they used to eat meat of animals.
I agree with you that non vegetarian food has lots of nutrients and minerals in it and if taken judiciously, these are good for body.

@Nawsheen Yes, you are right. However, this fact is also correct that there are many vegetarians who survive only on vegetarian diet, yet they remain healthy through out their life.

All living creatures were created to eat
- they eat what they eat to take care of their hunger. I do like meats and seafoods - but I can also respect those who do not eat them. But I do have a problem with over-killing animals for the sake of business/money - and as DianneN mentioned about inhumane slaughtering (and raising them in terrible environments).

Yes, you are right that all living creatures were created by Great God for consumption. For survival one needs to satiate one's hunger and live animals like fish etc. serve as their food. Yes, over killing of animals of to kill them in inhuman way is something which is unfair. Moreover, fish etc. are full of nutrients and minerals, which are essential for us.

@much2say Yes, you are right that it is kind of food chain. Big fishes eat small fishes and men eat even big fishes.
Yes, humans being smarter than animals have domesticated them and exploit them. I have heard in States of North Eastern India, many people catch hold of street dogs, kill them and then consume.

@dpk262006 As they say, we are all part of the food chain . . . it's not just for humans to eat, but all creatures. The thing is humans are the only ones that have domesticated animals - and make a business out of it.

I agree with your view point. I am glad to hear that at least you showed some sympathy for animals when you said they should be slaughtered more humanely.
