A funny thing happened on the way to Portland on Saturday

It is only a two hour drive on the interstate from my home to Portland. I usually stop at a rest area about 80 miles up the road. As I was coming back to my car, a man stepped out of a vehicle and said, "Well, Jim Higgins!" Fortunately, I recalled his name right away. It was Jerry Baldwin and his wife Lynn, on their way to the airport to fly out to Amsterdam to start a two week river cruise down to Budapest (That must be quite a trip). The even funnier part is that I played matchmaker and got the two of them together in the early 1980s. Jerry was a real estate salesman at an office I called on and Lynn was an escrow officer where I worked. It was my job to solicit business from realtors and Jerry used a different company. I talked him into trying us out and got him together with Lynn for a business lunch. We got his business and Jerry and Lynn got married as well. I run into them every once in a while and am always glad that their marriage is a success.

How nice is that? In a similar situation I'd be so relieved that I was able to recall their names.

Yes, I was too. Since they were people I worked with on a daily basis years ago, that helped.

@JamesHxstatic It's the ones you haven't spent a lot of time with who are the problem.

That's interesting. I've never run into anyone I know when traveling.

That was a happy coincidence to meet them there, and you must get a feeling of satisfaction knowing that it has worked out well for them.

I made a better match for them than I did for myself at times.

Those river cruises must be funny, we wanted to do the same with my husband, but we are not a lot in the mood to travel right now. It was surely a nice coincidence you met them.
