Surf's Up in California!

I love spring in California.
The tourists have not yet hit the beaches in full force because school is still in session. However, the sun is out, the surfers are hitting the waves, flowers are in bloom, and the air feels fresh and clean.
It is even still easy to find a parking space near the beach.
What more can we want from life? (Ok ... maybe world peace, good health and a government that actually cares about the citizens)
Despite wars, politics and life in general, all our problems seem to melt away at the beach.

@CRK109 - When she was still alive, my husband's aunt had a house in West Falmouth on Cape Cod and we used to go there in August. There were always lots of tourists around (like us ... LOL). I'm sure she loved it when everyone went home!

@CRK109 - We were never in Cape Cod in the winter, but I'm sure the weather is dramatically different. On the other hand, we like to go to ski villages occasionally in the winter, even though we don't ski. They are refreshing. I'm sure other people feel that way about winter in Cape Cod.

@DeborahDiane I'm sure she did, too. Cape Cod is murder during the tourist season! You can't get over those bridges to save your life! But offseason? Most restaurants and shops are still open, the beaches are still gorgeous, and you can drive anywhere and everywhere with hardly any traffic! The only difference is the weather.

@DianneN - No matter what is going on in my life, I love to walk at the beach. When one of our daughters moved to another state, I used to walk at the beach every morning and talk to her on my cell phone. It brought me peace.

@DianneN - I agree! I am furious with nearly all the Republicans in Washington. They keep trying to cover up for his horrible behavior. I've just about had it with all of them. They keep acting as if everything he says and does is normal. I am going to be walking a lot of miles on the beach the next four years ... while I work on getting our Representative, Mimi Walters, replaced by Democrat Katie Porter. Mimi was one of the co-sponsors of that horrible Republican healthcare bill. Katie has been endorsed already by Senators Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris. Fingers crossed we can flip the House.

@DeborahDiane I'm sure it brought you peace. Perhaps you should just keep walking on the beach until T is out of office. I may have to walk with you. I can't take him anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@DeborahDiane It's too early for summer, but we would be glad to have at least one month of real Spring.

Surf's up in Florida means the waves are 3 feet high instead of 2 feet high! lol
I agree with you about the beach...all the world's problems seem to melt away when you are enjoying a day at the beach! I often complain about living in Florida, but I will admit I LOVE going to the beach when I can!

@DeborahDiane Although I love to surf here in Florida, I pretty much laugh at myself and all the other Florida surfers, because we are not truly surfers riding 3-foot waves! I would love to someday ride the bigger California waves!

@moffittjc - Ha Ha! In Laguna, we sometimes get waves which are 6 to 8 feet high. At the Wedge, which is near where Newport Beach and Huntington Beach come together, the waves can get up to 15 or 20 feet on some occasions. Only the best surfers ever try the Wedge.

I hear the whales are migrating also, woohoo!
I've been to the beaches near San Diego. That water is cold!

@DeborahDiane It takes some getting used to. I did a bit of body surfing there, just to be able to say I did. What blows my mind is that some people (little kids too!) go into the water at the Oregon beaches. Brrrrr.

@blitzfrick - Wow! I would have a tough time getting into the water in Oregon, since I cannot make myself do it in Laguna Beach, California! LOL

@blitzfrick - Yes, the water is cold in our area. I don't usually get in the water above my knees. However, the surfers are a hardy group. Most of them wear wet suits.

@DeborahDiane It sure is, only 50 right now but warming up to 67 today. They are saying next week we will have temps in the 70s more like what spring is supposed to be.

Not much else to want Deborah.
It is a beautiful sight the beach and the waves.
I love to watch the surfers or rather I did when I lived by the sea.

@JudyEv - I am constantly surprised by the wide variety of people who surf. My husband knows a wealthy hedge fund manager in his 70s, who owns a beach front house in Malibu, and he surfs every morning before going into the office. I know surfers who are teachers, students, waiters, lawyers and people in a variety of occupations. I imagine that surfing brings them a lot of relief from the other types of stress in their life.

@JudyEv - I admire the people who are able to keep surfing and swimming in the ocean well past retirement age. Personally, I stick to the beach!

@JohnRoberts - I see you live in Los Angeles. I saw today on the ABC news that MetroLink will now allow surfers to bring their surfboard on the trains that go along the coast. That will make life easier for many of them.

@BettyB - Ironically, I'm not a sun worshipper, either. I like to go early in the morning, especially if we still have early morning fog. It is peaceful and there are few tourists out then, even in the middle of summer. Sometimes, when I drive over to the beach in the middle of the day, it looks like a different place to me with all the tourists around!

@DeborahDiane We're not sun worshipers. We usually go to the beach when we have out of town guests and that's about it.
