How to protect your PC from "WannaCry"

I don't expect this to be much of a discussion. In fact, it's more of an 'informational' (even a 'recipe') but if you have Windows Vista, Win 7, 8 or 10, here is what you need to do. It involves making a couple of new rules for your Windows Firewall and changing some settings to do with file sharing. You should also, of course, make sure that your Antivirus is up to date (you do have Antivirus installed, don't you?). I can't give you any more help or information, really, than is presented in this article, which has good, clear instructions and which, if you follow them step by step should prevent the ransomware from downloading and installing. If your PC has already downloaded it but hasn't triggered it, I can't guarantee that this will protect you!
The best way to prevent WannaCrypt Attacking and protect your PC.

I have a Husband who works within IT. I just leave everything computer-related to him, because I'm not very clever. :)

I thought it was WannaCry, not WannaCrypt? And the site says it "has broke out" -- who wrote that, a third grader? I really appreciate your information but I'm suspicious of the site. I'm familiar with Iobit, and I wonder why they would not make sure the grammar was correct. Heck, I'm suspicious of everything right now.

It is known as both "WannaCry" and "WannaCrypt". I, too, noticed "Has Broke Out" and wondered about it ("tut tut!"). The site does appear to be legitimate and the changes certainly make some sort of sense I'm not very happy with IOBit. What they do seems to be OK but it is very difficult to uninstall and keeps coming back, even when you think you've erased every last bit of it.

I have purchase a 34$ worth of AVG tune up, not sure if I did the right thing. But that's not even internet security. But I should have bought the whole package..probably next time. I wanted a Mcafee but my subscription expired and doesn't accept paypal as payment.

How would you know if the beastie was lurking, dormant, or at least quiescent, on your PC? Where do you look, what stone does it hide under...?

I would expect that the latest version of my Antivirus software (Avast) would sniff it out.

I am starting worried about this computer virus. As it seems there is no cure yet. The best way is to protect it only. I kept your link and I will apply it to my computer when I am home tonight.
