i always check out PBS Television on the weekend for sure to catch any great shows or documentaries they may have. Lucky enough I caught that they were going to air "Dark Angel" starring Joanne Froggatt from Downton Abbey. She played a great role as Anna - the lady's maid who had an unfortunate experience. However, the character she played in this two hour show was completely different from sweet Anna. In 'Dark Angel' she plays the real life Victorian woman - Mary Ann Cotton who was a notorious serial killer. It's both amazing and disturbing and so well performed by Joanne Froggatt. I was mesmerized and am still thinking about it. If you get a chance to watch it- do! It's great to catch those gems on PBS. It was a little frightening though the way she was so nonchalant about the murders. Pixabay free photos

I have not seen the show, but I know the story of Mary Ann Cotton. She was a British serial killer. She murdered as many as 21 people, including 11 of her 13 children, and three of her four husbands. She used arsenic poisoning.

She did indeed Anna- From the show I had not realized she had killed so many of her children but knew she did kill some. Horrible! It did show that she killed almost all of her husbands though. That's what tipped them off.

@LadyDuck Yes- a sociopath who killed her kids and many husbands to apparently 'get ahead and out of her poverty'!

Yes, she killed - even family members and her children just to get ahead. Terrible.

PBS saves the day here often enough! We don't have 'regular' TV, so see whatever there is available streaming with the Roku box!

I think I'll pass on that one. Chiller/horror genre's are not for me, even if it is a true story.

Sounds an intriguing show. PBS sounds a bit like our SBS - alternative type shows perhaps?

Yes and includes many British productions and music documentaries so very interesting. They ask to be publicly funded too.

I saw Dark Angel. I looked up the real Mary Ann Cotton and saw how she actually looked and read her chilling story. The TV show was very close.

Well I did take a quick look and intend to follow up and read more. Fascinating and disturbing the way she killed so callously.
