Being Thankful For Technology Today

I was reading JJ's post about the passing of Allman and I realized how thankful I am for the technology I have available to me. It is so great to be able to get online. If I feel like writing I can go to the site where I do that. If I feel like listening to music I can put in a favorite CD to listen to. If I want to read I can go to my free Kindle app and read. If I want to watch a movie I can go to Hulu or Netflix. And, my grandson is downstairs playing a game on his Xbox. How cool is that? And, of course I couldn't leave this without mentioning the cell phone too. What technology are you most thankful for in your life? For me it is the internet.

So true. I think people see so much negative happening because of technology, that they forget all the positive we can do because of it. Im thankful for my cell phone, for being able to text and talk on social media with friends and family. And to call and make appointments. And to be able to come on here and have people to talk to when im feeling low, since i dont have that in person.

@just4him .....I did too. I had so many books at home so I could do partial research. I sure love the internet for that reason. I love to do research. Libraries I went to had a lot of out dated books. Never sure I had the latest info.

@celticeagle It does make everything easier to research. I always had such a hard time with the library and the card catalog. Now I just type in what I'm looking for and I usually find it or I need to figure out the right key word that will give me what I'm looking for. No more spending countless hours at the library and coming away frustrated more often than not.

@celticeagle Letwin put the private person on the internet though. not just programed games. without his programs start we would not be on sites like this etc. maybe someonewould have done it but we don't know for sure. i seen him working on these first hand years after he started. brains was all he was about. quite peculiar that guy. spent most of his waking time on programming

There are so many things that are wonderful, but the technology that saves lives and can make life better would be first on my list.

I absolutely agree with you. When we were kids none of this stuff was available to us. We are like grown up kids with new toys! Not only that it is nice to speak to people from all walks of life and in all countries over the world. Brilliant isn't it.

I remember when we didn't have technology and did just fine but now I find myself happy to pop in a CD, get online and watch Netflix. We've adapted to where it's normal. I can still do without my cell but carry one for emergencies and doctor calls. I do have a smart phone so will use it for online occasionally.

I am very grateful for the internet. That's where I met my late husband and without the internet, I probably would never have known that wonderful man.

@celticeagle Indeed yes, I am certainly thankful for all that you mentioned. But, thinking back, don't you think our great-grandparents were happier for the manifold simplicity in their lives when they indulged in quality inter-actions with their family and friends!!!

I'd probably agree with the internet. Look at all the extra people we've met and talked with on a daily basis without leaving the comfort of our home. Course it is good to get outside and visit with real people too once in a while. I don't have a smartphone but cell phones even the dumb kind are still helpful.
