When I was 8 years old.

I might have been ten, I could have been younger than eight. The age I was doesn't really matter. Do you guys remember those horrible novelty type flashlights they would sell around halloween to go with costumes or the buckets or what have you? I don't really remember whether it was supposed to match, but we bought a couple one year. My father and I were walking around my grandparents neighborhood. I am not sure how he didn't know where he was in the neighborhood, even in the dark. By this time he had been living in the neighborhood for several years, and in any case he has always been good with directions. My adult self assumes that he must have been a little drunk .Either way I was terrified because he didn't know where he was in the neighborhood. I was a little girl, and while I might have been able to recognize houses and street signs, I wasn't exactly a gps unit. It didn't help that I was crying and booger nosed anyway. It was dark, probably around 8 or 9 at night. We finally did make our way back to my grandparents, but I don't think I got much candy and well this experience probably fueled a recurring dream I've had for many many years. ** It just came to me that he might have told me we were lost because I was already wanting to go home. I don't remember if I was already wanting to come home, but some inkling makes me think that I was. That he had told me we were lost in hopes that I would trick or treat more and have fun... I don't know, if that was the case, then that was warped**

What a scary experience. When we are young we trust our parents and we count on them to help in any circumstances. I can imagine how bad you were.

Yes. I can't quite remember what happened when we got home, but I'd like to think he was told off for getting lost... He most likely was because my grandparents, whom we were living with at the time, did not like him. My mother's parents.

@LadyDuck I definitely understand that. I lived with my in laws at one time (now divorced) and they didn't quite like me, either.

@ScribbledAdNauseum It's a bad situation when your in-laws do not like you, very annoying and frustrating.

How scary! No wonder you had a recurring dream for years. It was warped of him to tell you were lost.

Even if we really were. The more I think about it, the more I am certain that he told me we were lost AFTER I asked to go home. Even if we were lost, he could have tried to convince me to stay out or promise we were on our way home WITHOUT telling me we were lost. He also could have asked someone for directions, but I don't think he ever did that either.

My sister and brother were also out that night, I think, but they were allowed to go ahead a little because they were older. My brother was ten years older than me, my sister is six years older than me.
