Cream Cheese Bagel & Smoked Salmon is my new favorite!

United States
June 4, 2017 1:18am CST
I previously judged "smoked salmon" as being disgusting and I will never eat it again. The reason being? The one I tried in the past probably wasn't good quality. I decided to give smoked salmon another go and it's delicious! Especially topped on cream cheese and a bagel. Then today, I tried (above) was from Whole Foods and it's Gravlax just as good! If you tried something you thought was disgusting would you give it another shot? Any foods you rediscovered you didn't like but now do? Edit: - First time trying gravlax and it's just as good. Thank you Anna for helping me understand the difference! @LadyDuck

Gravlax is NOT smoked salmon, it is salmon marinated in salt, sugar and herbs (dill). It is delicious.

The packaging said something about traditional smoked salmon? I'm not too sure.. The one I ate before this says a type of smoked salmon but I realized it wasn't wild and had color added so we went for a different store/brand. I don't know my foods I apologize. I do like the one I just attached photo better though. What is the difference? Sorry if the photo is not straight I'm uploading my phone.

@LadyDuck Ah I see! Thank you! So now I discovered I enjoyed the smoked salmon and my first time trying gravlax Hehhehe. I learned something new thank you! No wonder it was more soft so is gravlax considered raw?

@infatuatedbby The one in this photo is smoked, but not the one in the photo you attached to the discussion. The one in this photo is smoked and cured in herbs, the other one is not smoked. It is made marinating the salmon at least 4 days, covered with equal quantity of salt and sugar and chopped dill. It's more soft than smoked salmon.

I didn't like eating sauteed bitter gourd. I give it a go when my mom did something to lessen the bitterness of it

I am not a fan of bitter gourd, still am not. I am trying to adjust to that. My mom is actually making it today as a soup.

I don't care for any 'smoked' foods the flavor upsets my stomach. We had bagels with butter this morning, that's how we love them.

What is the difference of lox and smoked salmon and gravlax? I am so confused hehe. I did learn from Anna smoked and gravlax but I hear the term lox too.

@infatuatedbby Smoked salmon is a blanket term for any salmon: wild, farmed, fillet, steak, cured with hot or cold smoke. Lox refers to salmon cured in a salt-sugar rub or brine (like gravlax). Nova is cured and then cold-smoked (unlike lox or gravlax). We usually get Nova when available for bagels.

I am not too fond of Smoked Salmon, and maybe need to try this kind. But it does sound good on a Bagel with some Cream Cheese

I was judgmental before but only because it could be the place I ate it from was not good. Now I have been addicted and I am not a fan of fish!

I bought some smoked salmon about 2 months back but could not eat it as it was super salty. I saw another brand at the supermarket recently but chose not to buy it due to my bad experience

I guess it depends on the brand. I do not like super salt either.

Haha, good one! But sometimes the food may not be good the first time around, but it can truly be good! If a food isn't good at one place, I won't try it again there maybe somewhere else.
