Beauty hacks to save $$$

Here are a few ways I like to save money on my beauty routine: When my mascara starts getting dried and clumpy, I add a few drops of artificial tears and shake well. Instead of buying dry shampoo for when I don't have time to wash my hair, I just sprinkle some baby powder on my hair, then brush it out. I always use a primer before I put on foundation. It not only makes the foundation go on much smoother, I don't seem to use as much of it so my foundation lasts a little longer. I buy the E.L.F. brand primer which is very inexpensive and works really well for me. Instead of buying lip gloss, I just dab on a little Vaseline petroleum jelly on my lips. it's also a great lip softener when I use it before I go to bed. When your favorite lipstick is down to the rim, instead of buying another one right away, use a lip brush to get the last of it out of the tube. When I've used the last of my special shampoo, I add just a little water to the bottle to get another time or two of hair washing. Hope these have been helpful....do you all have some beauty hacks you'd like to share with us? PS The photo is of a quilt I have that was made in 1898.

I have done the last two on occasions when -- the lipstick was my favorite color and I couldn't find another like it.- and the shampoo was too special to allow even a drop to get away. When I am at home I moisturize with olive oil. Sometimes I make a face mask with oats, avocado or pawpaw and olive oil.

I like the face mask idea. What is pawpaw?

@Kandae11 Is it similar to pumpkin or squash? Does it taste good or is it more for health benefits?

Inventive tips to save a little money. I never thought of putting artificial tears in my mascara to help it go further.

I read that somewhere, but have no idea where. It really does work.

I melt the lipstick and pour it in small containers, it's easier to use a brush when it is in the container.

When we quit work in 2001 I threw out the make-up, dress up clothes, panty hose, heels and contact lenses. I do wash my hair daily with Suave from Dollar General!

Suave is actually a good brand and I really like their body wash. Now that I'm retired, I wear more makeup, dresses, panty hose, and heels than I did before! Don't have contacts, though.

I always thought it was unnecessary, but my foundation goes on smoother. Mary Kay makes a good one, but I like the less expensive E.L.F.

Wonderful tips! I accidently read the sentence about the quilt as saying that you made them in 1898. LOL....I thought....Wow, she is doing well for her age. I have two quilts that look a lot like that one and was made by a 95 year old woman. I treasure them. No tips from me.

I didn't make the quilt top, lol, and it wasn't made by any of my relatives. I have no emotional attachment to it, so I'm selling it on ebay. Do you have any idea what it's worth?

@1creekgirl It depends on how old it is. If it has a known history....and how well made it is.

I've had it for years, although it wasn't from anyone in my family. It's a quilt topper and it's definitely an antique.

It's a liquid in a small bottle that helps with dry eyes. It's NOT Visene drops, be sure the bottle reads artificial tears. There are several brands. Most people can use them as often as they like to sooth dry eyes, but check with your doctor first.
