On Abby's Pond...

On Golden Pond was a great movie. Our little pond isn't golden, but it's worth a lot to us anyway. We enjoy the view from our windows, we enjoy sitting on the bench relaxing and/or fishing. Unfortunately, the weeds that surround the pond are too much for my husband to deal with. He does enough weed eating around here and to do the pond area would push him over the limit. That's why we are glad we found a guy to do it. We had him here two days ago and this time he brought his two sons. The two boys used the weed eaters and the father used a DR trimmer. Those machines can chop down trees! An hour later the pond looked beautiful and the dad and the boys were soaked and their feet were quite muddy! They are hard workers and we told the father we will have him to that job every other month during the season. For the $60 we paid is was well worth it! There are things we need help with the older we get. As long as my husband can handle most of the outside work I certainly don't mind paying someone to do the backbreaking work like weed eating around the pond. Photo is mine.

For the price he asks it would be a shame to renounce to their services. Send him and his two sons here for one week.

And when your guys are finished at Anna's place, send them back to Canada so they can help us.

Your pond is beautiful. You have a nice sitting place. I would say it's well worth the money to keep it looking good.

@RubyHawk The guy who did the weed eating said some of those 'weeds' were like small trees with a thick trunk!

The water level is dropping again - we have a leak someplace that started last year during the drought. We thought with all the rain and how full the pond was that it cured itself - wrong! We should have rain off and on this week so we hope to bring it up a few inches.

Yes, we thought so also. The dad is a hard worker and his boys are following in his footsteps.

@Courtlynn Yes, the original owners had the pond dug. We had looked into having one done at our previous home and they wanted 10K to do it.

That is a lovely pond and I can understand why you would pay someone to trim around it. That would be a real tough job.

Thanks, yes, I need my husband in one piece so paying for some work to be done is one way of keeping him around!

Your pond looks so inviting and relaxing. Seems that the guys who did the trimming were affordable and it makes sense to hire people when it gets to be too much. I'm sure your husband is happy he doesn't have to do it anymore.

He had never done weed eating arund the pond. The guy who did it the other day did it two months ago and that was the first time it had been done since we lived here. The weeds didn't grow as high until this season..we just sorta ignored them! He has a lot of weed eating to do around al the fencing and such, so he's happy paying for the hard stuff to be done.

There are fish in that little pond?

That pond isn't all that little. Yes, the pond has been stocked by previous owners and we've added to it. We have several catfish that are over 3 feet long and two grass eating carp that are probably close to 4 feet long...and lots of fish of other sizes and varieties. That photo was taken quite a distance from the pond. This photo was taken from the dock/bench.

@AbbyGreenhill It's little in terms that it isn't like a lake. That's a lot of fish.

@JohnRoberts But it doesn't claim to be a lake LOL! Yes, we have lots of fish and no license required.
