You may be getting HFCS whether you want to or not!

HFCS is High Fructose Corn Syrup, something a lot of us are trying to avoid. Now they have come up with an alternative name--Isolated Fructose! When you see a package that says "No High Fructose Corn Syrup!" don't just pick it up with a sigh or relief, read the ingredients. It probably has Isolated Fructose! They will get us to kill ourselves with poor nutrition whether we like it or not, it seems. Here is a link to an article about it: http://naturalsociety.com/watch-corporations-renamed-high-fructose-corn-syrup/

I am allergic to corn, so had to completely change how I'm eating now. It was shocking to find just how many foods were making me sick. Doctor suggested I grow a big garden and now do grow a lot of produce. Also every time Ralph's has a coupon to save $5 when I spend $15 on produce I load the coupon knowing I'm going to save money on items I can't grow in this area.

@Marty1 I do buy produce at the grocery stores and swap produce with neighbors. I don't have room for an Orange Tree and oranges grow here. One site I print coupons is Driscoll's, as there are codes on the package to save money on my next purchase. How much depends on how many codes I have entered, as the lowest level is .50 then .75 and the highest is $1.00. When I have $1.00 coupons I can walk out with free produce with a .99 sale and freeze or do some canning. Driscoll's has strawberries, raspberries and blueberries.

Wow, I wish my stores had coupons like that! I rarely use coupons because they are mostly for name brand beauty products and junk foods. Ralph's is a branch of Kroger and so is Fry's, a store we have here. You would think they would have such a coupon here but they don't. Do you every download the Free Friday Download to your rewards card? I got free iced tea this week and a couple weeks ago got a big bag of Ritz chips.

@Fishmomma I'll be sure to follow my Fry's FB site, although I loathe following commercial accounts--it makes them think they are doing something right.

I was surprised at how many things had it. I thought I saw some healthy oatmeal for my granddaughter but it turned out to have HFCS in it. You really have to be careful! I loved having a garden when I lived where things would grow. There's not many things better than picking your own food.

@Marty1 I think the farmer's market is good. Even the grocery store. They don't add ingredients to the fresh fruit and vegetables

@Marty1 I think the Farmer's Market is great. I have a drip line with a timer, so plants are watered easily at home.

They mostly use it in the U.S. where the population likes everything very sweet and this fructose is cheap to make. Try to avoid it if all all possible. Look at the picture I included and you will never want to eat fructose!

I think that's true. Not all GMO, they say, is harmful and they've been genetically modifying crops for decades and saved many from starvation. Our modern corn is a genetic modification from the early 20th century since the corn that the Native Americans originally grew were very short, small ears. The European settlers cross bred the corn to produce the big ears we have today. But now they do it chemically and God only know what they put in it--must be something harmful because our girls and boys are sexually maturing earlier and there is a lot more cancer as well as diseases we did not used to have when I was a child like ADD and ADHD. When I was a child cancer was rare and now it's common. I believe that's due in large part to what we eat.

I will not trust labels on the front of a product again. "This is perfectly healthy but read the fine print to find out what poisons we include!" should be required on foods!

@dragon54u Yes also milk eggs and other things are being sold as organic when they are not in fact.

Seems to be a very difficult task to find healthy foods. When you try to buy healthy you are usually paying twice as much! But I will definitely look for that ingredient when I read my labels.

Good, because it's horrible for your body! It's a real fight to feed my granddaughter properly--between all the GMOs and other nasty ingredients and the high price of healthy foods she doesn't have all that much variety. Thank goodness she doesn't know the difference!

It is terrible what is happening to what some consider 'food' in this world. People think they are doing the right thing, only to learn they have been fooled, once again!

Yes, I did not know they had changed the name. I remember picking up a few things before reading this article that said "no HFCS" but did not read the label. After I read this I threw them away because sure enough they had isolated fructose. It is criminal what they are allowed to get away with in labeling!
