Here are the "answers" to the recent scientific study I posted published by the Business Insider and conducted at the Cleveland Clinic & Harvard Medical School. According to this one study, these are the most effective painkillers used to treat the following symptoms: Fever= Advil/Motrin Headache= Tylenol Muscle Soreness= Advil/Motrin Menstrual Cramps= Advil/Motrin Hangover= Aleve & Advil/Motrin Arthritis= Aleve Sinusitis= Advil/Motrin Earache= Advil/Motrin Toothaches= Advil/Motrin Of course, some of you might disagree with these findings. You may find taking a different brand works better for your pain management or symptoms, and I welcome your opinions/personal experiences in reacting to what the study says. Anyway, I thought the study was interesting, insightful, and might be helpful, for some deciding on what OTC could work best for them for a particular ailment. Thanks for all who previously participated in the prior discussion, and I hope you will share your opinions on these results. *Personal Note: The answers expressed here are not my personal opinion on which OTC's are best. I'm just the messenger and thought it might be a thought provoking article for discussion.

I used to take Tylenol - then I used Advil . . . and then I switched to "generic" . I was told as long as the active ingredient in the generic was the same as the brand name, it was comparable. Now I try to go without any of that stuff . . .. I'm all for natural remedies if possible.

@dgobucks226 Well, I try not to take anything at all. Fevers are a good thing, so I let it run its course. Headaches, I sleep it off or try to use reflexology and acupressure. The other pains I don't get much of - I try to eat right, exercise, and get good rest to "maintain". Ginger is good for tummy aches and nausea. Throwing garlic into everything seems to help with the onset of a cold.

@much2say Some good pointers there! Heard about the ginger for stomach aches. I know garlic is good for many things they say, and I like garlic, but does't do much for your breath

Yes, the generic seems to work just as well. What kind of natural remedies do you use for pain?

My wife, who has worked in pharmacy for over 35 years, agrees with these findings. As for any of these remedies, I rarely buy the brand name stuff.

Yes, I don't buy brand name Ibuprofen either. Works fine for my aches and pains.

@dgobucks226 I can't think of any name brand OTC meds I buy, honestly.

That is a useful set of findings. It does help to now what painkiller is best for each situation. I do find that Tylenol is the best for me in most situations while my husband swears by Advil.

@dgobucks226 Thanks for sharing either way. I think we have Advil here....I'm pretty sure we do. If I was to take a tablet for something it would be Panadol or Nurofen.

You bet I think all of these offer pain relief. Some our better suited for certain symptoms. Thanks for your input!

Hey, it can't hurt, but that's only 1 survey's opinion. Just remember and this is important...Aleve is best for hangovers

Advil is the most mentioned there. Is it that good?

It works extremely well for swelling and inflammation . A lot of the symptoms in this survey involve swelling as one of the symptoms. I have a bad back and use Advil for it. Works well for me. I'm sure there are many things that factor into the decisions we make.
