Suicide at our Complex

I never dreamed I would be saying that. But unfortunately it happened. We were talking to a maintainance man this morning and he asked if we had heard about the suicide of a neighbor in the next building. The maintainance man spoke to the guy five minute before he shot himself. They passed on the walkway to the creek and he asked the guy how he was doing.
The guy answered that he was fine and they both continued on their separate ways. Before the maintainance man could get to the office he heard a gunshot. He ran back the way the guy was headed and found him in the woods with a gunshot in his head. He called 911 and notified the office. A string of police cars and an ambulance rushed in but the guy had died instantly. It happened on Monday afternoon, the day I had a doctors appointment.
The dead man was only 24years old. He has been to our apartments to change filters and so on. He was a pleasant young man. You would think he had everything to live for. But it's as we have discussed before. People never know what's behind the facade we present to our family and friends. We learn early to hide our real selves from the world. Suicide is tragic and leaves everyone asking themselves, was there anything I could have said or done to prevent this suicide?

May be there was something that he felt like not telling to the maintenance man, something which he did not feel like revealing.

Its very sad this happened, but as you said, we never know whats going on in someones life or head, or if it will happen. We can only support one another, and be truthful as to what we are feeling.

Why do these young people end their lives? Tragic is right! It is always such a shock.

@RubyHawk .....I have known quite a few also. I think it very sad that they hated this life so much that they would rather take their own life than live in it.

It is a very unfortunate incident. Sometimes, one is not able to confide one's problems in someone. Perhaps the social structure is in a way that hinders preventing such incidents.

@RubyHawk may be we know that if we share a few aspects of life with people around us, they will create more problems rather than solving them.

Oh my gosh that is so sad. =( He was so young too.
I will pray for his family and friends for comfort. I can't imagine what they are going through.

In most cases we do not know the real person behind the mask that is put on by people.A very tragic incident.

It is always such a waste to have a young person kill themselves, I hope he is finally at peace.

So tragic. People can hide a lot of themselves behind masks. Better to find a friend or medical person to open up to.

As you said, you never know what people might be feeling and what thoughts are troubling them. A shame he did not seek professional help. Just a sad event and especially tragic being a neighbor of yours.
